VALDOSTA — First-grade students and teachers at Lomax-Pinevale Elementary School recently enjoyed a cookout with members of King David Grand Lodge No. 4008 of Valdosta.

Eddie Koonce and Rodney Parker organized the event. O.B. Wilson provided the students with watermelon. Robert Story grilled the hotdogs and chicken for the students, teachers, and foster grandparent volunteers.

“They do this every year out of their own pockets and on their own time,” said Deldra Simmons, teacher. “They all shared smiles, laughter, and lots of love for our students on that day. We enjoyed this cookout at lunchtime on the last day of school.”

The lodge provided a Blues Clues bouncing house which was the highlight of the day, Simmons added.

The King David Grand Lodge No. 4008 of Valdosta started hosting this event in 1988 as a service learning project.
