LAKE PARK — An early morning accident Tuesday resulted in the death of an Atlanta man.

Killed was Robert Travis Grove, 31, according to Lowndes County Deputy Coroner Walter Wacter.

Shortly after 5 a.m., Georgia State Patrol Post 31 Trooper 1st Class Anthony Williams was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 75. About a half-mile north of the Bellville Road crossing, or Exit 2, Williams discovered a crumpled Jaguar resting in the ditch and a tandem tractor-trailer on top of the center guard rail.

Williams said both vehicles were traveling south on Interstate 75 when the accident occurred. Although the matter is under investigation, he said it appears the driver of the tandem tractor-trailer, owned by Estes Express Lines, struck the Jaguar from behind.

Citations may be issued following the conclusion of the investigation, Williams added.

At 10 a.m., Interstate 75 remained cluttered with debris, most of which appeared to be magazines, from the accident. Traffic in the area moved at a snail’s pace, slowed by warning signs placed along the highway by Georgia Department of Transportation crews.

Other agencies that responded to the accident included the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and Lowndes County Fire/Rescue.
