VALDOSTA — Lillie Pearl Bell, 56, of Valdosta, passed away on Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born to the late Joseph and Annie Lee Baker on Jan. 12, 1947. She attended Westside School. She attended the Everlasting Kingdom of Love and later became a member of Universal Deliverance, where she served faithfully until her demise. She was untied in marriage to Mr. Jerome Bell Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Lashonda Bell, Delores Bell, and Kimberly Bell, all of Valdosta; one son, Jerome Bell Jr. of Valdosta; one stepdaughter, Kathy Bell Dumus of Belleville, Fla.; mother-in-law, Annie D. Bell of Belleville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Khadijah Bell, Jeffrey Bell, Tyquarius Bell, Zion Bell, Shadrika Bell, and Tyrese Dumus; three sisters, Annie (Leroy Curry) Anderson of Orlando, Fla., Laverne (Yvlee) Graham of Valdosta, and Prophetess Roser (Min. Harvey) Daniels of Valdosta; two brothers, Joe (Annie Clara) Baker of Valdosta, and Bobby Baker of Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Baker of Atlanta; two special sisters, Bishop Naomi McGowan and Evangelist Sherri Ann Murphy; four godsons, Evangelist Frederick Albritton, Terrance Mathis, Jeffrey Johnson, and Bernard Cooper; three goddaughters, Kimberly Brooks, Essie Donaldson, and Chanique Norton; three special nieces, Tamonika Baker, Lisa (John) Roberts, and Latisha Bennett; two special nephews, Fred Baker and Marvio; two aunts, Hattie Baker of Lake City, Fla. and Chatrine McBride of Valdosta; three special friends, Robert McGowan Sr., Robert McGowan Jr., and Mark Holmes of Valdosta; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at the Universal Deliverance Church and Pastor Naomi McGowan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Calvary Rest Cemetery in Clyattville. — Harrington Funeral Home
ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Mary Nell Bland, 85, of Orange Park, Fla. since 1993 and formerly of Cherry Lake, Fla., died on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at River Garden in Jacksonville, Fla. Born on Nov. 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Willie W. and Viola Mathis Wood. Mrs. Bland was a registered nurse and a member of Black Pond Baptist Church, Middleburg, Fla.
Survivors are her husband, M.E. Bland of Orange Park; grandson and his spouse, Mark and Rachel Bland and great-granddaughter, Kaitlan of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Cheryl E. Bland of Middleburg, Fla.; sisters and brother-in-law, Velma Jefferson, Helen and Billy Clement, all of Ray City, Wilene Hunter of Nashville; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Patricia Wood of Nashville; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bland was preceded in death by a son, William E. Bland and an infant son.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Boots, the Rev. Lee Graham and the Rev. Ron Stephans officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Dam Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. this evening. — Carson McLane Funeral Home
VALDOSTA — Kate Canterbury, 61, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at Crestwood Nursing Home. She was born on Oct. 24, 1941, in Henning, Tenn. to Dillard and Katherine Griffin McKelvie. Mrs. Canterbury was a homemaker and a member of McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Fla.
Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa and Tony Harrell of Valdosta, Kathy Stone of La. and Rebecca Tomlin of Alaska; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her mother, Katherine Bunnell; three sisters, Sadie McKelvie, Judith Moody and Susan McIntosh, all of Fort Myers, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Canterbury on Oct. 20, 1996.
Mrs. Canterbury will be cremated and her cremains will be scattered in Tennessee. — Carson McLane Funeral Home
VALDOSTA — Addie Dora Welch, 68, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, in Quitman from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born on Nov. 5, 1934, in Ashford, Ala. to the late Willie Wilboun Branton and Willie Merle Welch Branton and had lived in Valdosta for the 33 years. Mrs. Welch was a greeter for the Wal-Mart Supercenter and enjoyed working with crafts and quilting.
Survivors include five sons and one daughter-in-law, Harold Welch Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla., Terry Welch of Cleveland, Ohio., Larry Welch of Valdosta, Garry and Patricia Welch of Albany, Paul Welch of Valdosta, 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, J. B. Branton of Cottonwood, Ala. and Gerald Branton of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold (Ed) Welch, Sr. and a son, Alan Welch.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Hartline officiating. VALDOSTA — Sis. Verneda “Big Mama” Woods, 80 of Valdosta was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Brooks County to the late Mrs. Leila Mae Sharper and Mr. Willie Archie Godfrey and was reared by the late Mr. Jeff Sharper. She was married to the late Mr. Persell Woods. She passed this life Sept. 5, 2003, at the South Georgia Medical Center. She attended the Lowndes and Brooks County School systems. She was a loyal and dedicated member of the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Delmar. She was a member of the Delmar Pallbearer Lodge and the Usher and Senior Mission.
She leaves to cherish her memory, five daughters, Willie Mae Jones (Joe), Valdosta, Lelar Aiken, Macon, Frances Armstrong (Clyde), Valdosta, Evelyn Jones, Killeen, Texas, Ophelia Woods, Valdosta; two sons, Edward “Billy” Woods (Loretha), Valdosta, Sherman Woods, Naylor; two brothers, Willie James Williams (Helen), Mayday, Theartis Sharper (Leila), Valdosta; 39 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Mildred Pierce (Dallas), Delray Beach, Fla., Arena Woods, Valdosta, Eula Godfrey, Valdosta, Mildred Williams, Statenville; one aunt, Mable Godfrey, Barney; one uncle, Randall Isom, Miami, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Ora Corbett, Jr.; one special niece, Estella Thomas, Valdosta; a host of caring nieces, nephews, cousins, St. Mark Baptist Church family; four special friends, Marlene Fuller, Ava Nell Burgman, Agnes Burgman, Madie Bell Marshall.

Robert Lee Bryant, 69, of Quitman, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Chapel services will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at noon at Washington Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Frank Goins officiating. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery. — Washington Funeral Home.

James Edward German IV, infant son of James Edward German, III and Shameka Nicole Doston German. died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center. Graveside funeral services and burial will be held at 3 p.m. today in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.- noon today at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
