Eiver Bailey
LAKELAND — Eiver Bailey, 91, of Lakeland, passed away Friday, July 25, 2003, at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, James and Latrella Bailey. She was born in Cook County and lived in Lanier County most of her life. She was a member of Trinity Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bailey, and grandson, Mack Bailey.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Sapp, Nashville; two sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and Latrella Bailey, Naylor, Leonard and Martha Bailey, Lakeland; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 27 in the Trinity Holiness Church in Berrien County with burial following in Empire Cemetery in Lanier County. Mrs. Bailey will be carried to the home of James and Latrella Bailey after 3 p.m. today to lie in state until funeral time. — Music Funeral Services of Lakeland
Irene Waller Durley
HAHIRA — Irene Waller Durley, 98, of Hahira, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Heritage House Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 13, 1905, in Cordele to the late S. Fredrick and Emma Warren Rumph and had lived in Hahira most of her life. Mrs. Durley was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Stalvey; a son and daughter-in-law, James F. and Evelyn Waller, all of Hahira; daughter-in-law, Madge S. Waller of Madison, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hugh Esker Waller and A.C. Durley; a son, Hugh Edward Waller; a daughter and two sons-in-law, Catherine Ruth and W.J. Willis and Marvin Stalvey; two sisters, Zebbie Newbold and Ollie Parrish; and a brother, L.C. Rumph.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday July 27 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Roscoe Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. — Martin/McLane Funeral Home of Hahira
Frances Elnita Griner Harper
LAKE PARK — Frances Elnita Griner Harper, 72, of Lake Park, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 27 in Macedonia Cemetery in Echols County with the Rev. Curtis Register officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert S. Fitzgerald, Kenny Fitzgerald, R.B. Fitzgerald Jr., Ricky Griner, Jed Lee and Rocky Griner.
Born Dec. 25, 1930, in Berrien County, Mrs. Harper was the daughter of the late Alice Mae Dampier Griner and Samuel Griner. She was employed with Smagels, Bagels and St. Johns Flea Market in St. Augustine, Fla. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Echols County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie H. Harper.
Survivors include a son, David Therrell Webb and wife Ruby of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren, Charity Webb and David Webb, both of St. Augustine, Fla.; special family members, Billy and Pat Fitzgerald of Lake Park; brothers, Huey Griner of Berrien County and Julian Griner of Lake Park; sisters, Dorothy Kendricks of Tifton and Effie Mae Stone of Lake Park; and several nieces, nephews and other family members. Roscoe Holloway
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Roscoe Holloway, 83 of Gainesville, Fla., died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville after a brief illness. He was born in Moultrie on Nov. 7, 1919, to the late Ernest R. and Ola Turner Holloway. He was a navigator for the Merchant Marines and a WWII Navy Veteran who served aboard the Battleship Iowa.
Mr. Holloway is survived by his brother-in-law, Richard V. Black of Valdosta; and nieces and nephews, Ernest and Jeweldine Black of Valdosta, Bobby and Shirley Black of Walterboro, S.C. and Allen and Cheryl Black of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wynell Black.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., today, July 26 in the McLane Riverview Mausoleum Chapel with Jere Via of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ officiating. Willie ‘Bill’ Strickland Sr.
JASPER, Fla. — Willie “Bill” Strickland Sr., 77, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Friday, July 25, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness. The Hamilton County native and lifelong resident was retired from the county where he was Hamilton County road superintendent for 20 years. Mr. Strickland was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded by an infant son and son, Willie Strickland Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Gloria Strickland, Jasper; one son, Charlie Frank Strickland, O’Brien, Fla.; three daughters, Sue Strickland and Hazel Strickland of Jasper and Shrea McCoy, Live Oak, Fla.; one sister, Ruby Izell, Jasper; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a very close friend of the family, Marcie Lunt.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 27 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla.

Lawrence Edward (Ed) Wilson
HAHIRA — Lawrence Edward (Ed) Wilson, 48, of Hahira, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. He was born on Oct. 6, 1954, in Waycross to Majorie Howell Wilson and the late Edward Wilson. Ed was an employment manager with Rehab Services and one of the founders of the Challenger League with the YMCA. He was also very active in the Mayors’ Council for Persons with Disabilities and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Sherry S. Wilson of Hahira; daughters, Courtney Van Landingham of Valdosta, Casey Touchton of Hahira; grandson, Houston Van Landingham of Valdosta; his mother, Majorie H. Wilson of Fitzgerald; a brother and sister-in-law, James F. and June Wilson of Tifton; two nephews, David Wilson and Wes Wilson, also of Tifton; mother-in-law, Edith Smith of Valdosta; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lori and Kevin Conner of Jacksonville, Fla. and Chris and Doug Hall of Moultrie; and four nephews, Tommy Clark of Valdosta, Jason Hall and Bryce Hall of Moultrie and Brandon Hall of Virginia.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 27 at the Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Willis and the Rev. Rick Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Carl James ‘Jamie’ Wollitz Jr.
NASHVILLE — Carl James “Jamie” Wollitz Jr., 45, of Nashville, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Berrien County Hospital.
He was born on July 27, 1957, in Duval County, Fla. to Carl James and Elfrida Kelley Wollitz.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the rank of sergeant, serving in a medical evacuation unit.
He is survived by his father and mother, Carl and Elfrida Wollitz of Nashville; two sisters, Wanda Snyder of Nashville, Cheryl Holmes, San Angelo, Texas; two brothers, Edward Richard Wollitz and Erick Lawrence Wollitz, both of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, July 27 in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Warner Guthrie and the Rev. Junior Swain officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery.
