Joe Monk Browning

LAKELAND — Joe Monk Browning, 80, of Lakeland, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Clinch County and lived all of his life in Lanier County. Mr. Browning enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Riley and Phoebe Sirmans Browning.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Browning of Lakeland; two daughters and son-in-law, Gwen Halley, Palm Beach, Fla., Jolene and Jack Hall, Lakeland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Milton “Buddy” and Elaine Browning, Wayne L. and Debbie Browning, all of Lakeland; sister, Ora Browning Smith, Lakeland; four grandchildren; Alan Gray, Nashville, Milton “Bud” Browning Jr., Lakeland, Coby and Brandon Rice, Ray City; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 12 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Good Hope Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Marvin Ted Buswell

LAKE PARK — Marvin Ted Buswell, 76, Lake Park, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Lake Park. Mr. Buswell was born on April 16, 1927, to the late John W. and Marion Goodwin Buswell in Reading, Mass. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and LaDon Conner, Lake Park; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Vera Buswell, Atlanta; a very special person in his life, Nancy Buswell; a granddaughter and spouse, Jennifer and Marlon Sankey, Decatur, Ala., granddaughter, Connie Conner, Lake Park; a great-grandson, Marcus Sankey, Decatur, Ala.; and a sister, Marion French, Bridgewater, N.J. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (Betty) Butler Buswell.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with the funeral services immediately following at 6 p.m. in the McLane Lakewood Chapel with the Rev. Richard Soper and the Rev. Michael T. Lyons officiating. Mr. Buswell will be buried in Long Hill Cemetery in Salisbury, Mass. — McLane Lakewood Funeral Home



George Robert ‘Bobby’ Legette

TIFTON — George Robert “Bobby” Legette, 65, of Tifton and formerly of Hahira, died on Monday, June 9, 2003, at Tift Regional Hospital in Tifton after a brief illness. Born in Hahira on Feb. 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Marvin D. and Sunni B. Rowell Legette. Mr. Legette was in the landscape and lawn business and he was a Baptist.

Survivors are his brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Joan Legette of Valdosta, Billy Joe and Sharon Legette of Panama City, Fla., Jerry and Joyce Legette of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Neesmith; and a brother, M.D. Legette.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. — Carson McLane Funeral Home



Mildred Louise Justice Maloy

NICHOLLS — Mildred Louise Justice Maloy, 88, of Nicholls, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas.

Mrs. Maloy, a native of Webster County, Miss., was born April 4, 1915, the daughter of the late Thomas Leroy and Lora Mandy Ruff Justice. She was a homemaker and an associate of the Justice Lumber Company and Nicholls Machinery until her retirement.

Her church membership was at the Nicholls Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Frances Perry McRae, Valdosta; grandchildren, Laura McRae (Steve) Hitchcock, Brice McRae (Jim) Tunison, Valdosta, Dr. Joan McRae (Ray) Kleinlein, Farmville Va., Dr. Tom, III (Bethe) McRae, Cleveland Ohio; brother, Ralph (Janie) Justice, West Green; grandchildren, Jordan Hitchcock, John-Stephen Hitchcock, Jackson Hitchcock, Laura Tunison, Kate Tunison, Will Tunison, Marimac McRae and Thomas McRae IV; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, June 11 at the Nicholls Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Campbell with the Rev. Brent Calloway will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Sharon Cemetery in Telfair County, Ga. — Sims Funeral Home

David Earl Brumley, 36, of Tallahassee, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 12 in Maxwell-Miller Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
