Henry Franklin (Frank) Parrish III
MARIETTA — Henry Franklin (Frank) Parrish III, of Marietta, formerly of Valdosta, died on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 26, 1942, in Valdosta to Elizabeth Stalvey Parrish and the late Henry F. Parrish Jr. Mr. Parrish was a field service engineer for Beckman Coulter Co. in Atlanta, a United States Navy veteran and a member of Lee Street Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Parrish of Marietta; his mother, Elizabeth Parrish of Valdosta; three sisters, Gwyn Parrish of Valdosta, Cheryl Smith and her husband Gene of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Sheila Parrish of Valdosta; one niece, Vicki and Corey Smallman of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one grandnephew, Samuel Smallman of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one grandniece, Sophie Smallman of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services for Mr. Parrish will be held 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Effie Coombs Buckles Sherrod
HAHIRA — Effie Coombs Buckles Sherrod, 92, of Hahira, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at the home of her daughter after a short illness. She was born in Cook County on Nov. 19, 1910, to the late William Robert and Ida Eunice Coombs. Mrs. Sherrod was a homemaker and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she was Sunday School secretary and sang in the choir. She is survived by her sister, Rozell Russell of Hahira; three daughters and sons-in-law, Maurice and Wendell Maddox of Centre, Ala., Dorothy Kash of Columbus; Sue and Larry Raines of Hahira, and Walter Andert of Cave Springs; one step-son and his wife, Bobby and Phyllis Sherrod of North Carolina; one step-daughter, Carole Riordan of New York; 13 grandchildren, Harold Maddox, Jr., Dwain Petty, Wayne Petty, Leann Andert Hester, Donna Kash Harbin, Steve Kash, Chip Kash, Robin Kash Barrett, Larry Raines, Jr., Lyle Raines, Leigh Raines Moore, Lindsay Raines, and Lauren Raines; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sherrod was preceded in death by her husbands, Boyd Buckles and Robert Sherrod; daughter, Doris Andert; son-in-law, Cecil Kash; two sisters, Inez Crosby and Louise Terry; and four brothers, Jessie Coombs, Robert Coombs, Leo Hogan, and Eunice Buckles. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23, 2003, at 3 p.m., at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Roscoe Bennett officiating. She will lie in state for one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. — Martin McLane Funeral Home.
James H. Bennett
Mr. James H. Bennett, age 81, passed away at South Georgia Medical Center Saturday, June 21, 2003. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in the chapel of Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Sparks City Cemetery. Joan Estes
Joan Estes, 64, died on Friday, June 20, 2003, at her home in Valdosta. Memorial services for Mrs. Estes will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Martha E. Horowitz
Mrs. Martha E. Horowitz, 79, longtime resident of Valdosta and widow of the late Norman Horowitz, died on Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Holly Hill Nursing Home. Arrangements for her memorial service will be announced at a later date. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
