VALDOSTA — Earl Rogers Carpenter, 77, of Valdosta, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, after a sudden illness.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1925, in Newberry, Mich., to the late George Edward and Viola DeCamp Johnson Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service and retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years of service and was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Molly Waldron Carpenter of Valdosta; two sons, Kimball Carpenter and David Carpenter of Valdosta; two daughters, Carol Pendleton of DeLand, Fla., and Dolores Carpenter of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Kimball (Bo) Carpenter, Jr., April Sapp, Alex Carpenter, Michael Sapp, Hector Carpenter, Kate Carpenter; one great-grandchild, Lanie Carpenter; one brother, Howard Carpenter of Seney, Mich.; and two sisters, Ruby Owen and Ruth Dake of Newberry, Mich.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Sapp.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial in Carter Cemetery in Echols County. The Rev. Donald Hodges will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.



Sarah Evelyn McLeod, 72, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. She was born on Dec. 14, 1930 in Valdosta to the late James Roy Finney and Frances Lillian Dasher Finney. Mrs. McLeod was retired from the Valdosta Police Department where she was assistant to the chief of police. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ and a member of Woodman of the World.

She is survived by her husband Harold E. McLeod of Valdosta; her daughter and son-in-law, Janice Wisenbaker Allen (Jim) of Valdosta; her sons and daughters-in law, Tally Marcus Wisenbaker Jr. (Carol Crook) of Valdosta, Gary Mixon Wisenbaker (Jeannie Schmoe) of Savannah; and her son, James Glenn Wisenbaker of Valdosta; grandchildren, Richard Glenn Harris of Valdosta; Wendy Wisenbaker Jones (Rob) of Valdosta; Tally M. Wisenbaker III (Fran Ramsey) of Quitman; Christian Young Wisenbaker, Anna Christina Wisenbaker and Frederick Noel Wisenbaker of Savannah; great-grandchildren, James Parker Jones of Valdosta; Ramsey Conoley Wisenbaker of Quitman; stepson and daughter-in-law, Guy Martin (Jan) of Nashville; stepdaughter and son-in-law Bonnie Martin Barker (Wayne) of Nashville; step-grandchildren, Brad and Tyler Martin and Nick and Clay Barker all of Nashville; numerous nieces, nephews and a very special mother-in-love, Mabelle Johnson of Valdosta. She was predeceased by her brothers, Roger “Buck” Finney and Lavelle Finney.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003 at 2 p.m., on the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta



HOMERVILLE — William Donald Tison, 52, of Homerville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, in the Saint Vincent’s Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness.

Mr. Tison had lived in Clinch County all his life. Coach Tison, as he was commonly known, was head football coach for Clinch County High School Panthers from 1974 until he became Principal in 1994. He was a member and deacon of the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Robert Julian Tison and Susie Vivian Williams Tison.

Survivors are his wife, Pamela Hinson Tison of Homerville; one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jason Bell of Homerville; one son, William Donald “Don” Tison II, of Homerville; grandson, Tison Reese Bell of Homerville; his step-mother, Monette Allen Tison of Fargo; one sister, Susanne Tyson of Fargo; two brothers, Troy Tison of Huntsville, Ala. and Cecil Tison of Leesburg, Fla.; one step-sister and husband, Denise and Dr. Roger Huelsnitz of Homerville; one step-brother, Frank Allen of Fargo; and several other relatives.

Services for Mr. Tison will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at 4 p.m. from the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. Internment will be in the Shiloh Church Cemetery.

Anyone who has ever played football under Coach Tison will be considered honorary pallbearers.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the age of 81 years, Doris Childs Terry died at the First Hill Care Center in Seattle Wash., and now has been promoted to glory. She is survived by her sons; Robert Terry, Ronnie Terry and Richard Terry; brother and sister-in-law Billy and Nellie Childs; sister and brother-in-law Sarah and Paul Ball; sister-in-law Laura Childs; grandsons Ronald and Bobby Terry; granddaughters Dena and Lisa Terry; great grandchildren Rhiannon Mize, Raylene and William Lane Shinall; many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son Larry Terry; her parents Robert Lee and Ruth Childs; her brothers Theodore Childs, Jerry Childs, and Cornelius White (C.W.) Childs.

Born and raised in Tifton, Doris married Willis M. Terry and settled in Valdosta to raise her family. For eight years, she has lived in Seattle near her oldest son. She was a member of the Azalea City Church of God in Valdosta and was a resident of the Heritage House in the Market in Seattle.

Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. in the Mount Paron Cemetery near Alapaha with the Rev. Raymond Gabbard officiating. There will be a song and celebration performed by Sheila Solomon. Visitation is Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Dewey ” Buddy” Tomlinson, 69, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Shand’s at Lake Shore in Lake City, Fla., following a brief illness.
