Carla Alderman Delcamp

DENVER, Colo. — Carla Alderman, Delcamp, 50, died at her home on April 17, 2004. She was the wife of Ron Delcamp of Denver.

Born on March 15, 1954, in Atlanta to Melba Boyette Alderman and the late James C. Alderman, her early life was spent in Dallas, Texas. A graduate of Hillcrest High School there, she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Methodist University. She had a long career with United Airlines.

She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Kaye Alderman Thompson; and her grandparents, Lossie and Estelle Boyette, Brooks Alderman; and her uncle, Lossie Boyette Jr. and his wife Sara.

In addition to her husband and mother, Melba Alderman of Valdosta, survivors include her aunt, Mary Boyette Swindell and her husband Paul of Valdosta and aunt, Lonita Hutchinson of Adel; and several cousins.

Funeral services were held in Denver and a private memorial service will be held in Adel on a later date. — Crown Hill Mortuary, Wheat Ridge, Colo.



Shelby Evans ‘Shelly’ Gerena

VALDOSTA — Shelby Evans “Shelly” Gerena, 41, of Valdosta, died on Friday, May 7, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on Oct. 11, 1962, in Sandusky, Ohio, she was formerly of Amhurst, Ohio and had lived in Valdosta for the past 10 years. Mrs. Gerena was a receptionist for Radiology Associates. She was a member of the Brown Hill Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survivors are her husband, Luis Gerena of Valdosta; daughter, Rachel Evans of Lakewood, Ohio; parents, Clayton and Carole Cline of Ohio; brothers, Stanley Cline of Valdosta, Shawn Cline of Vermilion, Ohio, Stephen Cline of Berlin Heights, Ohio; grandfather, Maurice Bilby of Berlin Heights, Ohio; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services for Mrs. Gerena will be held today at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lowndes County Humane Society. — Carson McLane Funeral Home



Shirley Ann Griner

VALDOSTA — Shirley Ann Griner, 49, died on Friday, May 7, 2004, at her home in Valdosta. Born on Nov. 10, 1954, she was the daughter of Pauline Spikes Joiner and the late Leoris Joiner. She was a member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church and was activities coordinator at Langdale Place.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Naomi Griner Alderman and Mark Alderman of Thomasville; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Rachel Griner of Valdosta; her grandmother, Pauline Joiner; four grandchildren, Dalton Gramling, Eric Alderman of Thomasville, Roger Griner of Valdosta and Taylor Griner of Hahira; sister, Judy Seago of Valdosta, brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Tammy Joiner of Valdosta; fiance, Charles Sapp of Quitman; special friends, Bryan Sapp and Amy Sapp of Quitman.

Funeral services will be held on today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Dorsett officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman. Lillian Mabel Miley

HAHIRA — Lillian Mabel Miley, 95, of Hahira, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Fountain, N.C., on July 23, 1908, to the late W.J. and Sue Lydia Morgan Daniel. Mrs. Miley was a housewife, mother and a member of New Friendship Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Jean Miley of Hahira; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Martha Miley of Hahira; three grandchildren and their spouses, Joey and Edna Miley of Hahira, Jimmy and Cindy Miley and Kim and Rick Holcombe of Valdosta, one great-granddaughter, Caroline Miley of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Miley; four brothers, Charlie, Earl, John and Andrew Daniel; and one sister, Elizabeth Lawson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Elder Thad Marshall and Elder Bob Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. — Martin McLane Funeral Home



Ruth Reid Powell

VALDOSTA — Ruth Reid Powell, 83, of Valdosta, went to her heavenly home on May 8, 2004. Born in Atlanta on May 21, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Robert Roberson and Ruth Hill Reid. Ruth is remembered for her love of flowers, her service to Habitat for Humanity and her work with the Elk’s Auxiliary. She taught eighth-grade science at Valdosta Junior High School from 1969 to 1984, and she and her husband, Frank, ran the “Little Store” at the corner of Park and Ashley from 1954 to 1963. Ruth was a member of Bemiss United Methodist Church.

Survivors are her daughter, Jan Powell of Valdosta; a son, and daughter-in-law, Tony and Ann Powell of Orlando, Fla.; grandsons, Ben Powell and Nick Powell of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Robert Reid of Rochelle; four nephews and a niece; stepson, Mac and Kitty Dethlefsen of Dallas, Texas; stepdaughter, Melissa and Don Day of Tyler, Texas; five stepgrandchildren; her caregiver, Teresa Burkette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Powell, and a sister, Elizabeth Harrison.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bemiss United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bob Shell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home this evening from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ruth to Habitat for Humanity. — Carson McLane Funeral Home

John Carlson Pascarella of Valdosta, infant son of John and Mary Carlson Pascarella, was born on May 3, 2004, and died on May 4, 2004, at the Medical College of Central Georgia in Macon.
