John William Durrance

John William Durrance, 62, of Lakeland, passed away early Sunday morning, Oct. 12, 2003, at his residence after a battle with cancer. He was born and had lived most of his life in Lanier County. He served his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps. He farmed and was a carpenter. His passion for hunting and fishing was known by all, especially his family and close friends. He was a member of the Unity United Methodist Church. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Alton and Olif Durrance, and his brother, Earl Durrance, by only a day.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Durrance, Lakeland; three sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny Dewayne and Carol Durrance, Pearson, Bill and Jennifer Durrance, Valdosta, Ashley and Kristie Durrance, Lakeland; two grandchildren, Talisa and Wade Durrance, Pearson; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Gail and Mike White, Valdosta; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in the Unity United Methodist Church with burial following in Mud Creek Cemetery in Lanier County. Visitation will begin in the funeral home at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 13, 2003, with the family receiving friends from 7-9 tonight.

Maude Harnage

Maude Harnage, 86, Nashville, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at her residence. Born Dec. 18, 1916, in Clinch County, she was the daughter of Pascal Sirmans and Belle Smith.

She was employed at Nashville Textile, Levins’s Department Store and Berrien Department Store. She was also a member of Long Bridge Primitive Baptist Church.

A widow of Roy Harnage, who died in 1992, she also was preceded in death by a daughter, Gale Baldree, who died in 1989. Mr. and Mrs. Harnage were married for 59 years.

Survivors are three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Bill Connell, Nashville, Jean and John Exum, Nashville, and Hazel and Charles Jefferson, Jacksonville, Fla.; and eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home, with Elder Robert Skinner, the Rev. Mickey Lindsey and Rev. Gary James officiating. Hipoleta Cernas

Hipoleta Cernas, 72, of Sparks passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at her residence after a lengthy illness. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. — Purvis Funeral Home, Adel.



Hubert F. Chancy

Hubert F. Chancy, 66, of Hahira, died on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Smith Northview Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Martin McLane Funeral Home.



Earl W. Durrance Sr.

Earl W. Durrance Sr., 59, of Lakeland, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 2003, in the South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 13, 2003, in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Mud Creek Cemetery. — Music Funeral Services Inc. of Lakeland.



James H. Rainwater

James H. Rainwater, 62, mayor of Valdosta, died on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
