Roland Rudolph Blair
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Roland Rudolph Blair, 77, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Echols County on Nov. 24, 1925, the son of the late Roland Leonard and Annie Marie Swilley Blair, he was a Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea. Mr. Blair worked as an assistant at Veterinary Hospital and was a member of Foster Drive Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Bubba and Beth Blair of Barney; grandchildren, Aaron, Andy and Sara Blair of Barney; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Alonzo Coggins of Lake Park, Montez and Bobby Howell of Mayday; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vasko and Nita Blair of Charleston, S. C., John Lewis and Michelle Blair of Miami, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Blair was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Carter Blair; a daughter, Wanda Jane Blair; and a brother, Wallace Larry Blair.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lake Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. — McLane Lakewood Funeral Home
Jimmie Clay Brown
MADISON, Fla. — Jimmie Clay Brown, 61, of Madison, Fla., died Monday, July 14, 2003, in Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel, Madison. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery, Madison County, Fla. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born in Wilder, Morgan County, Tenn. He had lived in Madison for the past 22 years. He was operation manager with United Rentals in Valdosta.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Brown of Madison; three sons, Ricky Brown of Lincoln Park, Mich., Tommy Brown of Detroit, Mich., and Christopher Clay Brown of Madison; one stepson, Joe Jennings of Madison.; one daughter, Marsha Brown of Lincoln Park, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Theresa Jennings of Madison; three brothers, James Brown, Ray Brown and Claude Brown; seven grandchildren, Little Joe, Alyssa, Taylor, Leann, Devin, Ethan, Kayla; and many other loved ones.
He left this earth to join his mother, Vider and father, Henry, as well as his brother, Charles and sister, Betty Jean and grandson Cameron. May you rest in peace, we love you. — Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel, Madison
Aline B. Conner
CAIRO — Aline B. Conner, 91, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following an extended illness.
She was a native of Waycross and had resided here until 1971, when she moved to Valdosta for several years and resided in Cairo for the past several years. She was married to the late George McDuffie Conner and was the daughter of the late Marshall Martin Brett and Susan Patterson Brett.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnson Brett; and three sisters, Juanita B. Rogers, Magdalena B. Welch and Mary Martin Smith.
Mrs. Conner was retired from Valdosta State University. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist in Cairo, Eastside Kennagers and the Cairo Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Georgia Martha Surrency of Jacksonville, Fla., Dorothy A. James (Marshall A.) of Cairo, and Mary C. Reed (Billy) of Hilliard, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Oakland Cemetery in Waycross. — Music Funeral Home of Waycross
John Young McDaniel Jr.
QUITMAN — John Young McDaniel Jr., 78, of Quitman, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Brooks County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooks County, he was the son of John Young and Lillie Bertie Cooper McDaniel Sr. Mr. McDaniel was a member of Quitman United Methodist Church, owner-operator of McDaniel Trucking and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. McDaniel, Quitman; daughter, Melanie (Lee) Fontaine, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Dave (Glenda) McDaniel, Valdosta, Robin (Zinda) McDaniel, Quitman; five grandchildren, Ivy (Larry) Smithwick, Blaine McDaniel, Bridgett McDaniel, Drew McDaniel, Cameron Fontaine; two great-grandchildren, Logan Shelley, Stephen Smithwick and one sister, Evelyn (Jack) Sutton, Norman Park. He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Jerel McDaniel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 18 at the Quitman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Cone and the Rev. Ronnie Wills officiating. Mack F. Register
HAHIRA — Mack F. Register, 62, of Hahira, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a long illness. He was born on May 31, 1941, in Lowndes County to the late Charles Brantley “Dock” and Charlie Ruth Scarborough Register. Mr. Register was a firefighter with the Valdosta Fire Department, was in sales and construction and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Coppage Register of Hahira; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Missy Register of Hahira; two daughters, Tane Register and Taryn Register of Hahira; three grandchildren, Scott Wilson, Kolby Register and Tanner Register; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Vernon Cain of Hahira; his stepmother, Willie Mae Register of Hahira; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Lucille Register of Valdosta, Judy Glanzer of Montgomery, Ala., Sandra and Skip Morrison of Marietta; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Register was predeceased by one brother, Jerome Register.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 18 at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Cook County with Dr. Clyde Stokes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
