Andrew Jackson ‘PaPa J’ Barnard
COLQUITT– Andrew Jackson “PaPa J” Barnard, 82, of Colquitt, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Barnard was born on Dec. 13, 1921 in Berrien County. He was a member of the Donalsonville Free Will Baptist Church and was the retired owner of Barnards Convenience Foods. He was an Army veteran and served during World War II. Mr. Barnard opened the store in 1969 and ran it until his retirement in 1987. He was a Colquitt city councilman and served as the mayor for six months. He was the mayor pro tem for six years.
Survivors include his wife, Inez H. Barnard of Colquitt; three daughters, Patricia D. Hopkins and Linda G. Knight, both of Valdosta, and Robin Renee Griffin, Colquitt; eight sons, Russell W. Barnard, Ronnie E. Barnard, Gary J. Barnard of Valdosta, Daniel A. Barnard of Bainbridge, Roger L. Barnard of Donalsonville, Johnny D. Linton of Port St. Joe, Fla., Bennie Frank Linton of Wewahitchka, Fla., and Richard J. Redd of Colquitt; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Gail Hutto of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Sheffield Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Colquitt City Cemetery with military honors and Rev. Rollin Rathel officiating. Active pallbearers are Wayne Barnard, Bryan Barnard, Chad Harrison, Michael Griffin, Berry Reynolds, Daniel Barnard and Randell Fisher. Honorary pallbearers are the Colquitt City Council and Jim Holt.

Glenn R. Lee
LAKELAND– Glenn R. Lee, 75, of Lakeland, passed away late Sunday morning in the Louis Smith Memorial Hospital after an apparent heart attack. He was born and lived most of his life in Lanier County. He was owner of Lee Grocery, lovingly called Teeterville Mall. He farmed and was a brick mason prior to purchasing the store. He was a Veteran in the U.S. Army, serving during during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Cordia Bell Knight Lee, and his wife, Marie Hand Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Vickers Lee of Lakeland; a daughter, Cordia Lee of Lakeland; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Joanne Lee, Darrell and Susan Lee, all of Lakeland; stepsons, J.R. Philllips and Billy Phillips, both of Lakeland; grandchildren Jammie and Mandy Cook, Dana and Jamie Luke, Angela and Michael Pound and Cliff Lee; great-grandson, Jaxson Cook; two sisters, Betty Jean Sutton of Nashville and Gladys Lankford of Homerville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in the Empire Primitive Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Empire Cemetery in Lanier County. Nell Miller
JASPER, FLA.– Nell Miller, 82, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. The Hamilton County native was a former resident of Jacksonville, Fla. and was a retired nurse. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Miller.
Survivors include one son, Leonard E. Miller Jr. (Mary) of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Sammy Miller (Flo) of Jackson, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Thelma Miller Lucas and her husband, Phil, of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Jasper, Fla. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Fannie Laura O’Neal Sauls
JENNINGS, FLA. — Fannie Laura O’Neal Sauls, 84, of Jennings, Fla., passed away on Friday, May 21, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Sauls was born on Oct. 25, 1919, in Ochlocknee to the late Joel and Ida O’Neal. She was a former resident of Madison, Fla. and co-owned and operated Sauls Grocery in Jennings, Fla., for many years. Mrs. Sauls was a member of Jennings Assembly of God.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Albert D. Sauls; two sons, Ronnie Sauls (Debbie), Lake Park, and Ted Sauls (Juanita), Valdosta; two daughters, Debra Pollock (Eugene), Valdosta, and Yvonne Sullivan (Kenneth), Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Travis Sullivan, Claudia Green (Corey), Ted Sauls Jr. (Jenny), Tonya Hanselman (Richard), Kris Sauls, Danny Pollock (Jennifer) and Tina Sauls; six great-grandchildren, Seth Law, Macy Hanselman, Kent Hanselman, Nathan Hanselman, Chloe Green and Caleb Pollock; a special sister-in-law, Coye Sauls Hall; and special care givers, Brenda O’Conner and Dorothy Chauncey.
Funeral services will be held today at Jennings Assembly of God Church. Rev. Kenneth Sullivan, Rev. Ted Sauls, Rev. Jeremiah Wilson and Rev. Ralph Blackmon will officiate the service. The music will be provided by Heirs of Grace from Tallahassee, Fla., Ronnie Sauls, Debbie Pollock and Yvonne Sullivan.
Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery in Echols County. Pallbearers will be Travis Sullivan, Richard Hanselman, Corey Green, Jackey Sauls, Danny Pollock and Kris Sauls. Richard ‘Ricky’ Sparks Jr.
MADISON, FLA.– Richard ‘Ricky’ Sparks Jr., 20, of Blythewood, S.C., went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2004, at UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel with burial following in Shiloh Cemetery in Madison, Fla.
Ricky was born in Valdosta and was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 22 months of age, which he suffered from for many years. He came to know the Lord as his savior at the age of 9 on his Mama Brooks’ front porch. He belonged to Calvary Chapel Church of Blythewood, S.C. He loved hunting, fishing, trucks and being with his Papa Brooks.
He is survived by his mother, Dot Sparks of Blythewood, S.C.; Ken Grabarczyk, of Graham, N.C., a dear and loving friend who filled a long, empty void in his life; a sister, Kristi Brooke of Perry; a brother-in-heart, Yadiel Shifferaw of Carrboro, N.C.; a niece, Mikayla Brooke of Perry; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Monette Brooks, Greenville, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Ramona and David Day of Valdosta, Hubby Brooks of Hahira, Beth and Bert Sever of Perry, Fla., Lee and Steve Lankford of Madison, Fla.; paternal grandparents Pauline and Ray Kelley of Madison; aunts and uncles, Onieda and Tom Matheny, Conn., Shiela Sparks of Madison and Debra Ramsey of N.C.; many cousins; and his mountain buddy, Aunt Ann Simpson of Valdosta. — Beggs Funeral Home of Madison, Fla.
