Robert L. Allen
Robert L. “Bob” Allen, 78, of Valdosta, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, in Maryville, Tennessee.
Mr. Allen was born May 7, 1925, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Earl and Lillian Allen. A graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in business, he was a retired first lieutenant in the United States Air Force, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Allen was a former New York City police officer and employee of Modern Fibers in Fitzgerald. He was a member of the Retired Officer’s Association, Lions Club and a former Mason.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Arlene Allen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. and Joan Allen, Elmira, N.Y., and Peter and Linda Allen, Seattle, Wash.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Rader, Maryville, Tenn., and Heidi and Wayne McGrew, Yakima, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, from 9:30 to 10:45 Tuesday morning.

Thomas Jones
Thomas “Tom” Jones, 67, of Valdosta, passed away early Saturday morning, January 17, 2004, in South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Fairview, Tenn., and had lived in Valdosta since 1979. Mr. Jones had attended the Eastern Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Sexton.
Survivors include his wife, Dean Jones of Valdosta; two daughters and son-in-law, Pam Cornelius of Valdosta and Stacy (Jones) and Robert Boggs of Douglas; one son, Jeff Jones of Waycross; grandchildren, Thomas Perdue, Matthew Jones, Schuyler Kenzel, Allison Cornelius, Alexandra Jones, Britton Jones, and Dilan Boggs; step-grandson, Dustin Boggs; three brothers, Ewell Jones, Vernon Jones and Bill Jones, all of Fairview, Tenn.; and one sister, Cecile Jeffreys of Coffeeville, Miss.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Lowndes County. Paul D. Swain
Paul D. Swain, 50, of Valdosta died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on Aug. 8, 1953, in Nashville, Tenn., to the late Raymond Swain, Sr. and Mary Katherine Gasser Swain. Mr. Swain was a truck driver with Onyx Waste and a member of New Life Assembly of God in Quitman.
Mr. Swain is survived by his wife, Melinda Sue Swain of Valdosta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gini Vogal of Nashville, Tenn., and Christina and Eric Kitchens of Ft. Worth, Texas; one son, David Charles of Valdosta; one sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Jimmy Gower of Rockvale, Tenn.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Raymond and Marlene Swain of Antioch, Tenn., and James Swain of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; parents-in-law, Linda and Raymond Davis of Valdosta; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Sharon Smith of Valdosta and Judy and Mike Messer of Quitman; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Berlin, Georgia with Rev. Arnold Hodum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He will lie in state for one hour prior to service time. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. — Carson-McLane Funeral Home.
Woodrow Wilson Turner
Woodrow Wilson Turner, 85, of Valdosta died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on March 1, 1918, in Douglas and had lived most of his life in Valdosta. Mr. Turner attended Morningside Baptist Church, was a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple, the Azalea Masonic Lodge #716, the VFW, the American Legion, the Valdosta “T’s”, and at one time was an axillary deputy for the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Turner was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He retired from Central Truck Lines after 34 years of service, where he received many Safety Awards for Zero Accidents having driven over 2.5 million miles.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eucelle Coker Turner of Presbyterian Home in Quitman; grandson and his wife, Michael William Allen and Brenda, Lake Park; sister, Willie Mae Priest of Valdosta; great grandsons, Richard Allen, Michael Allen, Blair Colvin, and Ethan Colvin, all of Lake Park; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Turner Allen, his grandson, Christopher Allen, his son-in-law, George W. Allen, and his sisters, Ruby Colwell and Mildred Grooms.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Burial will follow with Masonic Rites at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. — Carson-McLane Funeral Home.

Viola B. Miley, 86, of Adel passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Adel Memorial Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21 at Purvis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton.
