Mitzi Lee Cantrell

Mitzi Lee Cantrell, 46, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, June 11, 2004, at her residence after a sudden illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1957, in Emporia, Va., before moving to Valdosta in 1998. Mrs. Cantrell worked as a security guard in the Stone Creek subdivision for well over a year. Her father, Thomas E. Bass, preceded her in death. She was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include husband, Albert Cantrell Jr., Valdosta; mother, Erma Geraldine Allen, Emporia, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Charles “Donnie” Kitchen, Emporia, Va.; brother, Thomas E. Bass Jr., Texas; and a number of aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. As per Mrs. Cantrell’s wishes, she will be cremated following the service. Dorothy McDonald

Dorothy McDonald, 73, of Valdosta died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on Nov. 25, 1930, in Lowndes County to the late Thomas and Grace Hartsfield Guest. Mrs. McDonald was a retired inspector with SAFT and a member of Charity Baptist Church, where she was active in the nursery ministry. She was a graduate of Pine Grove School.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Herbert Hoover McDonald, Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Terry Reagan of Valdosta; three grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Katie Reagan of Lawrenceville, Marcus and Roxanne Reagan of Milledgeville, Josh Reagan of Valdosta; one great-grandson, McLean Reagan of Lawrenceville; special nieces and nephews, Robert and Linda Guest of Valdosta, Ginny Wooten of Sanford, N.C., Shirley Sainz and Elaine Bellflower, both of Valdosta, Tommy and Teresa Parkerson of Valdosta; a host of other family members and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the Charity Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in Cat Creek Cemetry. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. McDonald will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Herman L. ‘Doc’ Morgan

Herman L. “Doc” Morgan, 68, of Lake Park, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta.

Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the Pinetta Baptist Church, Irwin County, with the Rev. Tommy Land Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Saturday evening at Paulk Funeral Home, Ocilla.

Mr. Morgan was born April 11, 1936, in Irwin County to the late Louise Gibbs Chaney. Mr. Morgan was a retired employee of the BellSouth telephone company, with 35 years of service, having worked in Macon, Albany, Valdosta and Atlanta. He was a member of the Pioneers of America, River Bend Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having been stationed in the Panama Canal.

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Jean Morgan, Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Brian Burkhardt, Valdosta; two granddaughters, Krista Plair and Amber Burkhardt, Valdosta.

Lonnie J. O’Neal

Lonnie J. O’Neal, 90, of Valdosta, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home.
