David Reed Bearden
MORVEN — David Reed Bearden, infant son of Dave and Paulette Bearden died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at Middle Georgia Medical Center in Macon.
He is survived by his parents Dave and Paulette Bearden of Morven; paternal grandmother, Barbara Bearden of Morven; maternal grandmother, Nell Parker of Hahira.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 8, 2003, in Friendship Cemetery in Hahira with the Rev. Shane Ashley officiating. In lieu of floral tributes, those desiring may make contributions to Morven Baptist Church Building Fund. — Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home, Quitman.
Bessie Cannington
VALDOSTA — Bessie Cannington, 90, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Cannington was born on Feb. 14, 1913, in Cairo to the late Henry Judson and Missy Collins. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ken Watkins of Rutherfordton, N.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Susan Cannington of Valdosta, Elzie and Lelia Cannington of Bainbridge, Edward and Brenda Cannington of Valdosta; nine grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buie Cannington, her parents and seven sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, in the Chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Cannington, Jr. and the Rev. Alton Hardee officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
William Ray ‘Bill’ Gilliland
VALDOSTA — William Ray “Bill” Gilliland, 81, of Valdosta died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at his home. He was born on Sept. 22, 1921, in Guymon, Okla., to the late Con and Vella Grimm Gilliland and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mr. Gilliland was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he had served on the administrative board, and was a retired from the FAA as an air traffic control specialist. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy-Naval Air Corps, flew transport in the Pacific during in World War II, was a trained fighter pilot and an instrument flight instructor. Mr. Gilliland was a member of the VFW and the Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Merrell Gilliland of Valdosta; two sons, William Ray Gilliland, Jr. of Glendale, Ariz., Mark Merrell Gilliland of Hahira; one daughter, Stephanie Susan Stallings of Acworth; seven grandchildren, Jeromy Gamble, April Tinsley Harper, Jennifer Kimbrell, Melissa Gilliland, Mark Daniel Gilliland, Olivia Danielle Gilliland and William Dane Gilliland; two great grandchildren, Bailey Harper and Shelvy Harper; one sister, Loretta G. Garrison of Guymon, Okla.; one brother, Hervey Joe Gilliland of Roswell, N.M. He was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Con Gilliland.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Adams officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on this evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. John T. (Jack) McCambridge
VALDOSTA — John T. (Jack) McCambridge, Lt. Col. (Ret.), USAF, 73, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, on Jan. 20, 1930, the son of James H. and Frances V. McCambridge, he lived his early life in Manville, Rhode Island. He graduated St. Raphael Academy, Rhode Island College of Education with a degree in education, and Troy State University with a master’s degree in management. His military career in the USAF spanned 30 years, including service during the Korean conflict, the Vietnam era and 15 years at Moody AFB as an instructor pilot and retirement as deputy base commander.
A member of the Order of the Elks, the American Legion, the Retired Officer Association, The Order of Daedalians, The Knights of Columbus, and St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Col. McCambridge was a devoted husband and father.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Doris Pendleton McCambridge; his four children and their spouses, Jack, Jr., and Patricia McCambridge, Chesapeake, Va., Barbara J. and George Tomyn, Ocala, Fla., Cynthia Anne McCambridge, Valdosta, Jim and Buffi McCambridge, Valdosta; five grandchildren, Claire and Carrie Tomyn, Kierstin McCambridge, Hanna Scout and Christian Finch McCambridge; two brothers and sisters in law, Robert H. and Helen McCambridge, Pittsford, N.Y., William F. and Virginia McCambridge, Fort Collins, Colo.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. this evening, Aug. 8, 2003, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with visitation following. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. John O’Brien officiating. Interment with graveside military honors will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Curtis Ray Beck, 34, died Thursday in the Colquitt Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an industrial accident. Funeral arrangements will be announced Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville.
Jack Perry Hullett, 62, of West Berrien passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 at Tift Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Purvis Funeral Home in the chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Lawson and Elder Charles Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in Vickers Church Cemetery. Maggie Mae LaShore, 87, of Valdosta passed this life Aug. 1, 2003, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness on N. Forrest St. Bro. Jerome Merine will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Final rites are entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home.
Andrew McDermott, 78, of Jupiter, Fla., died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Hospice of Palm Beach Co., Gertstienberg Center in West Palm Beach. Arrangements are incomplete at his time and will be announced by the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
