Pearlie M. Brown

VALDOSTA — Pearlie M. Brown, 85, of Valdosta passed this life Feb. 1, 2004 at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was born on March 25, 1918 in Lowndes County to the late Mr. Clem Brown and the late Mrs. Zefphrene Brown. She was married to the late Mr. Wallace Brown and from the union, two sons were born.

Mrs. Brown joined the East Oak Grove Baptist Church in Valdosta at an early age. She attended Lowndes County Elementary School and graduated from Dasher High School in Valdosta. She later moved to New York in 1945. She later moved to New Jersey where she became a member of the St. John Baptist Church in N.J. She was employed in the garment district in New York for many years as a machine operator. She later became employed by the United States Postal Services until she retired in 1983. She moved back to Valdosta where she became a faithful member of the Greater Pleasant Temple Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories two sons, Ronald Brown of Las Vegas, Nev. and Clement Brown of Irvington, N.J.; two sisters, Aretha Harrington of Valdosta and Lucy Brown of Irvington, N.J.; two brothers, Bennie Brown, East Orange, N.J. and Clem Brown Jr., Newark, N.J.; five grandchildren, Sadiqua Williams (Todd) of Valdosta, Dalone and Cornelius Rogers of East Orange, N.J., Ibn and Fatir Abdullah of Irvington, N.J., Sherone Williams of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, Destinee Holmes, Brenajah Williams (Coochie Coo), Todd Williams II and Octavius Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great- nieces and nephews; and great-great- nieces and nephews and many sorrowing friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greater Pleasant Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie J. Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm. — Harrington Funeral Home



Lucious Footman Jr.

LAKELAND, Ga. — Lucious Footman Jr., 63 of Lakeland, Ga. passed this life Feb. 1, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Footman was born June 6, 1940 in Brooks County to Mr. Lucious Footman Sr. and the late Mrs. Carrie C. Footman.

He attended the Brooks County School system and afterwards moved to Palm Beach County, Fla. in 1963 where he met and married Vina B. Mathis and to the union, four children were born. He was a member of the Greater Bethel AME Church in Lakeland, Ga.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Vina B. Footman; his sons, Carl V. Footman (Lynda) of Harrison, Ga., Joey T.J. Footman (Iris) of Lantana, Fla., Michael B. Wilson (Cynthia), Boynton Beach, Fla.; his daughter Rena V. Footman (Horace), West Palm Beach, Fla.; and 23 grandchildren. He is also survived by his father Lucious Footman Sr.; four sisters, Ann Flowers, Lakeland, Ga., Mary L. Copeland (George), Valdosta, Betty J. Footman, West Palm Beach, Fla., Carrie Washington (George), Hahira; two aunts, Bessie Griffin, Quitman, Helen Brown, Palatka, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Barbara Bass (Patrick), Doretha Sancho (Nathan), Lucille Hall (Charles), Louise Mathis, Zenora Clay (Rufus) and Louisiana Pinkney (Horace); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and loving friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Bethel AME Church in Lakeland, Ga. with the Rev. Gerald Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in Charles Knights Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home





Barbara Ann Frontera

NAYLOR — Barbara Ann Frontera, 65, died on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at her home in Naylor. Born on Dec. 1, 1938, Mrs. Frontera was the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Taylor Bryan of Berrien County. She was widow of the late Richard Watson Frontera, Sr., a member of Naylor Baptist Church and she had been a bank manager with Nations Bank.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and JoAnn Frontera of Jefferson, Doug and Angelika Frontera of Naylor; daughter, Ronna Anderson of Fitzgerald; four grandchildren, Joey Frontera of Atlanta, Elexis Frontera of Gainesville, Karen Snowden and Nic Griffis of Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren, Tanner Bee Snowden of Fitzgerald, Madison Grace Frontera of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Hank Starling of Ray City; her mother, Myrtle Bryan of Ray City; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Charles Bryan.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Naylor Baptist Church with the Rev. Ross Hudson officiating. A committal will follow at Westview Cemetery in Nashville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.– Carson McLane Funeral Home



Mason Milhous Gwaltney

VALDOSTA — Mason Milhous Gwaltney, 97, of Valdosta died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at the Lakeland Villa Nursing Home in Lakeland after a lengthy illness. She was born on Dec. 24, 1906 in Lowndes County to the late Samuel and Delia Ann Fletcher Milhous and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Mrs. Gwaltney was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a niece, Kathryn Connell of Naylor and a nephew, John Milhous of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gwaltney and a brother, John Talley Milhous, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Feb. 6, 2004 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Adams and the Rev. Jimmie Cone officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on today from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.– Carson McLane Funeral Home.





Thomas Sims

VALDOSTA — Thomas Sims, 77, of Valdosta died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lowndes County on March 4, 1926 and was the son of the late Lucille Sullivan Carter and Fred Carter. Mr. Sims was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and the Farm Bureau. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sims of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Terri Sims of Key West, Fla.; one daughter, Kathy Hunter of Valdosta; grandchildren, Shellie Sims of Miami, Fla., Carter Sims and Jessica Sims, both of Key West, Fla., Tari O’Gorman of Norwalk, Conn.; one brother, Bill Sims of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends on this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.





Shawnda Dynisha Smallwood

VALDOSTA — Ms. Shawnda Dynisha Smallwood, 31 of Valdosta passed away on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004. She was born June 6, 1972 in Valdosta to Jacqueline Simpson Terry and Frank Smallwood.

Shawnda was educated in the Lowndes and Valdosta School systems. She graduated from Lowndes High in 1990 and continued her education at Valdosta Technical College in the Licensed Practical Nursing program. Shawnda held various jobs, her last being at South Georgia Medical Center. Shawnda was a loving quiet mother, daughter, sister, and friend to those who knew her.

Shawnda leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Jakayla Kionna Smallwood of Valdosta; her parents Jacqueline S. Terry and Jimmy Terry of Valdosta, Frank Smallwood of Morven; a great-grandmother Marion Alexander of Valdosta; four sisters, Jimekia Terry of Valdosta, Sheila Jordan (Dwight), Jimmie Terry, Debra Johnson (Tony), Bessemer, Ala.; five brothers, Daniel Terry (Shirley), Gerry Terry of Brooklyn, N.Y., Melvin Terry (Veronica), Nashville, Tenn., Jamison Smallwood and Brian Smallwood of Morven; a very special and devoted friend Marcus George of Valdosta; a special cousin and friend Marcia Hall of Valdosta; also a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at St. Timothy AME Church with Pastor Terry McCreary officiating. Burial will follow in Beck Street Cemetery. — Stevens Funeral Home





Hansel L. (H.L) Tillman

MOULTRIE — Hansel L. (H.L.) Tillman, 64 of Moultrie died at his residence Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004.

He was born on May 6, 1939 in Colquitt County. He was a farmer and member of China Grove Baptist Church. He was an inactive deacon and taught Sunday School for many years and served on several church committees.

He is survived by his wife Caroline Motes Tillman; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery and Leisha Lunceford, Moultrie, Jason Hansel and Tammy Tillman, Valdosta; four grandchildren, Shawn Lunceford, Sarah Lunceford, Moultrie, Brittany Garrison, Chason H. Tillman, Valdosta; brother, Carl W. Tillman (Little), Moultrie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Paul Moore, Moultrie, Elvenia and Charlie Griffin, Adel, Eunice and Ralph Hall, Moultrie, Margie and Bill Keith, Moultrie.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at China Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Baker, the Rev. Alan Tillman, and the Rev. Ricky Griner officiating. Burial will be held in China Grove Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Kevin Faulkner, Craig Faulkner, Ralph Hall, Jr., Ronnie Moore, Scott Keith and Kenny Croft. Funeral service for Mr. Slyvester Moore, 50 of Valdosta will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at he House of God Keith Dominion Church, 606 West Adair St. Elder Joyce Lewis pastor and Trial Elder Gloria Moore Wright will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill cemetery.

Ludine Shiflett, 92, of Madison, Fla., and formerly of Valdosta, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Ga. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carson McLane Funeral Home.
