Cassie Rene’ Goodson

VALDOSTA — Cassie Rene’ Goodson, 50, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at her residence after a short illness. Born on Feb. 10, 1954, in Orlando, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Sidney Hiers of Ellington, Ga., and the late Dorothy Daughtry Hiers of Hahira. Cassie graduated from Winter Park High School in 1972. She received a nursing degree in 1974. She married Danny Goodson in 1974. They lived in Moultrie until moving to Valdosta in 2003. Cassie worked a number of years as a nurse and also in social services. She was an active member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church where she was involved with the Sonlight Circle and was also a generous supporter of missions. Cassie lived everyday with unconditional love towards others. That was her gift to us. She was a superb hostess. Going to her home for celebrations was a gift from God. She was a caretaker to all. Most precious to her was her husband, daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Survivors are her husband, Danny Goodson of Valdosta, formerly of Moultrie; daughter, Hallie Goodson Hart and her husband Lavon Hart of Valdosta; two grandsons, Nicholas and Preston Hart, both of Valdosta; sister, Penny Thomas and her husband Jim Thomas and their children, Jake and Anna Thomas, all of Atlanta; and close local relatives, Cheryl, Steve, Alexandra and Shanna Beall, all of Valdosta, and Donna, Zeke and Jenny Cothern and Herbert Tomlinson, all of Moultrie. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Hart of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Park Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Rikard officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at Carson McLane Funeral Home. James N. Flowers Sr.

VALDOSTA — James N. Flowers Sr., 64, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Born on July 28, 1940, in Colquitt County, James was the son of the late Newton and Betsy Boyd Flowers. He was a building contractor and a proud member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Doris of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Dale Flythe and Sandra and Lance Wilcher, all of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, James Newton Jr. and Amie Flowers, also of Valdosta; grandchildren, Jarrett and Jamie Flythe, Reid and Abigail Wilcher; mother-in-law, Eloise Pinion, Adel; sisters and brother-in-law, Louise and Ralph Craven, Ellenton, Ga., Esther Grimes, Land O’Lakes, Fla., Kathryn Copeland, Tallahassee, Fla., Voncile Kearce, Ellenton, Ga., and brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Deena Flowers, Tallahassee, Fla., and John and Ruby Flowers of Georgetown, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Willis and Dr. Wayne Robertson officiating. Ciprain Robert Martinez

VALDOSTA — Ciprain Robert Martinez, 69, of Valdosta died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, in Frankfort, Ky.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Luke Strong and Son Mortuary Chapel, Moultrie, with Elder Wayne Alexander officiating. Minister Charlie Harris Jr. and Bishop Johnny Ward will be assisting. Burial will be held in Saint Peters Cemetery, Fresno, Calif. Sammy L. Larry, Wiley Gibson, Jack Larry, Robert Gibson, Douglas Gibson, Waymond Gibson, Randy Gibson and Atticus Jones will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Ciprain Robert Martinez was born Sept. 26, 1934, in La Blanca, Texas, the son of the late Eulojio and Martin Flores Martinez. He retired as MSGT in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Doris “Dee” A. Scott Martinez of Valdosta; three sons, Ciprain Robert Martinez Jr. and wife Maxine, Robert Martinez and Richard Martinez and wife Julie of Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Reynaldo Martinez and wife Joyce and Eulalio Hernandez and wife Elsie, all of Fresno, Calif.; four sisters, Narcisa Chacon and Leandra Dias, both of Fresno, Calif., San Juanita Dias and husband Joe of Mendosta, Calif., and Lorenza Saldana and husband Henry of Sanger, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Vanessa, Nicolas, Tomas, Christobal, Valerie, Jeremy, Alexis, all of California, Andrew James and Nathan Aaron, both of Texas; two stepsons, Dr. Daniel M. Scott III of Providence, R.I. and David D. Scott and wife Sandra of Atlanta; two stepdaughters, D’Anna Scott Harris and husband Charlie of Valdosta and Daphne Scott Henderson of Peoria, Ill.; three stepgrandsons, Charlie “CJ” Harris of Miami, Fla., Darian Alexander Harris of Valdosta and Marcus Singletary of Atlanta; seven stepgranddaughters, Danielle Scott of Atlanta, Cierra Harris of Valdosta, Davida Scott of Atlanta, Sonnet Henderson of Peoria, Ill., Destiny Harris of Valdosta, Autumn Henderson of Peoria, Ill., and Christianna Harris of Valdosta; a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.

Mozell Meeks Smith

ATLANTA– Mozell Meeks Smith, 94, died Sept. 27, 2004, at Budd Terrace in Atlanta after an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith was born in Coffee County, daughter of the late Amos Meeks and Amy Meeks. She lived in Waycross for 20 years and Valdosta for 43 years before moving to Atlanta in 1997. She was a retired school teacher who taught in Lowndes County most recently. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta and a past member of Azalea Garden Club, Literary Guild, Valdosta-Lowndes Retired Teachers Association and Woodmen of the World. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death in 1990, by her husband of 56 years, George Bennett Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Maryzell Smith Conley, husband Don W. of Duluth, Margaret Smith Crowe, husband Phil of Warner Robins; four grandchildren, Carole Conley of Gainesville, Ga., Karen Conley Clark, husband Paul of Ellicott City, Md., Shannon Crowe of Houston, Texas and Brandon Crowe of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Carson Clark; sister, Virginia Norris of Douglas; and two brothers, Roy H. Meeks Sr., wife Mabel of Waycross and Buckhead, and Roscoe Meeks of Douglas. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Oakland Cemetery in Waycross with the Rev. Dorothy Nell Copeland, 84, of Valdosta, died on Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Michael F. Paoletti, 67, passed away on Sept. 25, 2004. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. this evening, Sept. 29, 2004, at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
