Joshua Edward ‘Josh’ Browning
THOMASVILLE — Joshua Edward “Josh” Browning, 22, of Thomasville, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, 2004, following an automobile accident. He was born on July 6, 1981, in Lowndes County and had lived in Thomasville most of his life. He spent a lot of time in Lakeland where he had family and friends as well. He was a 1999 graduate of Thomas County Central High School, where he was a member of FFA. He was currently attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. He loved the outdoors, was an avid bass fisherman, enjoyed hunting and four-wheeling. He attended First Baptist Church in Thomasville.
Survivors include his mother, Elaine Sherrod, Thomasville; father, J.E. Browning, Lakeland; maternal grandmother and husband, Vita and David Chesemore, Lakeland; maternal grandfather and wife, Ira and Margie Fender, Dupont; stepgrandmother, Velma Sherrod, Pavo; special cousin, Sara Browning, Lakeland; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding Josh in death were his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Browning; uncle and namesake, Charles Browning, and stepfather, Odis Sherrod.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 in the chapel of Music Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Pavo.
Visitation will begin after noon Friday, Feb. 20 with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Inez Ruth
VALDOSTA — Inez Ruth, 82, of Valdosta passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Berrien County and had lived in Valdosta for most of her life. She was a member of South Valdosta Church of God. Mrs. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Clara Thornton Harnage; son, Travis M. Youmans; and three brothers.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Marie Miller, Tallahassee, Fla., Wanda and Jimmy Sumner, Tifton; grandchildren, Kathy and John Casey, Indianapolis, Ind., Jimmy Verhagen and Paula Minix, South Bend, Ind., Marsha Summerlin, Tifton, Gary Summerlin, Tallahassee, Fla., Tammy Adams, Chopper and Lori Summerlin, all of Moultrie, Brian Youmans, Slidell, La.; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Gladys Cole, Merritt Island, Fla., Betty Sue Bryan, Adel; one sister-in-law, Bernice Harnage, Plant City, Fla.; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 at South Valdosta Church of God with the Rev. Bill Campbell officiating. Mrs. Ruth will lie in state one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Cherry Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20 at the funeral home. Alice Cannon Tomlinson
LOWNDES COUNTY — Alice Cannon Tomlinson, 88, of Lowndes County, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Lakehaven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Cook County on Oct. 16, 1915. Mrs. Tomlinson was a homemaker and a member of Lake Park Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Clarabeau Tomlinson Brightman Carter and Bill Carter of Lake Park; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lou T. Griner of Valdosta; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Billy Wayne and Elissa Tomlinson, Kay Tomlinson, Donna and Rob Alger, Barclay and Dora Carter, Neal Carter, Cynthia and Barry York and Bruce Brightman; 12 great-grandchildren; six sisters; and one brother-in-law, Robbie Carter of Columbus, Maxine Cannon, Vivian and Bill Davis, Edna Storey, Rosa Mullis, Olya Fessard, all of Macon; one brother, Joe Howard Cannon of Adel. Mrs. Tomlinson was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Maxwell Cannon Jr. and Janie Harrell Cannon; stepmother, May Stone Cannon; husband, William Bryant “Willie” Tomlinson; son, Billy Joe Tomlinson; grandson, Doug Brightman; five sisters, Emma Ruth O’Quinn, Thelma Connell, Marguerite Cannon, Annie Laura Quinn and Sue Speiss; and one brother, Kinlaw Cannon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery near Hahira. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home

Herbert “Polly” Frazier, 74, Quitman, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman with the Rev. Alonzo Fudge officiating. Burial will follow in North End Cemetery. Hazel Murray Murphy, 82, Jennings, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20 in the Burnham Christian Church Cemetery in Jennings. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 a.m.-noon at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta.
