Robert Lee Collins
QUITMAN — Robert Lee Collins, 86, of Quitman died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident of Brooks County, he was the son of Robert Lee Sr. and Louise Bentley Collins. He was a farmer, veteran of World War II serving in Patton’s Third Army, member of Beulah Baptist Church serving in the past as the clerk, deacon and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine Taylor Collins of Quitman; two daughters, Julia Ann (Larry) Hilliard of Scaly Mt., N.C., Carol C. (Jerry) Selph, Vero Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Christina (Michael) DiTomasso, Leigh Ann (Michael) Flowers, Elizabeth Renfroe, Joseph Collins and Amber Collins; three great-grandchildren; Zachery Shelton, Cody Fowler and Dominic DiTomasso; one brother, Gordon (Reba) Collins of Quitman; one sister, Dorothy Shaw of Cherry Lake, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Collins of Quitman. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; four brothers and a son, Robert Lee Collins Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. John Newsome and Dr. Joe Beauchamp officiating.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday. — Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home, Quitman
Mary M. Cox
VALDOSTA — Mary M. Cox, 79, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Atlanta on Dec. 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Clara Busby and Ralph Milton Milam Sr. Mrs. Cox was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Christian Homebuilders Sunday School Class. She was associated with the Valdosta City Schools and the Registrar’s Office at Valdosta State University.
Widow of the late Decar Covington Cox Jr., Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jimmy Carter of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Sue Cox of Valdosta; grandchildren, Stan and Tiffany Cox of Birmingham, Ala., Amy and Scott Ferrell of Valdosta, Michael and Melanie Carter of Valdosta, Kristin Carter of Albany; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Betty Milam of Atlanta; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Harley Langdale of Valdosta, Robert Lee and Betty Cox of Thomasville.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Dr. Charles Adams will officiate. Hubert ‘Chief’ Donald Lovett
RICHOC, La. — Hubert “Chief” Donald Lovett, 63, born May 18, 1940, in Sparks, Ga., was a resident of Richoc. He passed away March 16, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, La.
Visitation will be observed today, March 18, 2004, from 6-10 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home, Morgan City, La. Visitation will resume Friday, March 19, 2004, from 9-11 a.m. and services will be conducted Friday, March 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home with Brother John Elliott of the First Baptist Church of Patterson officiating. Entombment will follow in Morgan City Mausoleum.
Mr. Lovett was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He worked for numerous boat companies and was a captain of 100-ton vessel from which he retired. He also retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 20 years of service. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Bryant Lovett Johnson; his loving wife, Barbara Pope Lovett; son, TSgt. Kevin Donald Lovett and his wife Danella; his son, Hubert” Terry” Lovett; daughters, Janet Lovett Melancon and her husband Randy Paul, Lesley Ann Lovett, Carol Jean DeHart Lovett, Melissa Michelle Johnson and Crystal Roxsanne Gonzales and her husband Lupe. He is also survived by his brothers, John Lovett and his wife Daphne and Earl Lovett and his wife Barbara; his sisters, Mary Alice Lovett NeSmith, Robbie Nell Lovett Futch and her husband Raymond, Jeani Lovett Lewis, Merle Lovett Moore. He is survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Lovett, Kevin Clayton Lovett, Seth Lovett, Tiana Lovett, Christopher Lovett, David Paul Melancon II, Morgan Elliott Johnson, Keala Lovett, Kara Melancon, Austin Mitchell Kelly, Caitlyn Breeanna Gonzales; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Clayton Lovett; brothers-in-law, Henry Lewis and Billy Ray NeSmith.

Isabella Dell Martin
VALDOSTA — Isabella Dell Martin, 2-day-old daughter of Richard and Brenda Martin of Valdosta, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Smith Northview Hospital.
Other survivors in addition to her parents include, one sister, Mina Maria Martin of Valdosta; paternal grandparents, Richard and Pat Martin of Palm Harbor, Fla.; maternal grandparents, Narciso and Maria Jornet of Jacksonville, Fla. Isabella is now in Heaven with her paternal grandmother, Janet Dell Martin.

Marion William Maxwell
ALBANY — Marion William Maxwell, 84, of Albany, formerly of Quitman, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an illness.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman. The Rev. C. Read Heydt and the Rev. Hilton Gillespie will officiate.
A native of Grady County, he was a graduate of Cairo High School. After graduation, he worked in the funeral home in Cairo. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in Iran. While stationed in Iran, he received a degree from Tehran University. Following the war, he graduated from John A. Gupton College of Funeral Service in Nashville, Tenn. He moved to Quitman in 1946, and worked with Maxwell and Eason Funeral Home. He bought the funeral home in 1964, and retired in 1982. Mr. Maxwell was a member of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quitman, and he was a past president of the Baptist Brotherhood. Mr. Maxwell was a past president of the Quitman-Brooks County Chamber of Commerce and the Brooks County Housing Authority. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hodges Maxwell.
Survivors include his son, Darlow A. Maxwell and his wife Sheila, Albany; five grandchildren, Chris Maxwell, St. Simons Island, Shannon Maxwell Tomlinson and her husband Kerry, Lakeland, Ga., Paula Simmons and her husband Glenn, Adel, Wendy Weathers and her husband Troy, Adel, Taryn Moore, Albany; four great-grandchildren, Paxton Blitch, Wesley Allen Maxwell, Madison Brooke Weathers, Anley Elizabeth Simmons; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Maxwell, Americus.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern from 7-9 p.m. today.

Walter Rewis
STATENVILLE — Walter Rewis, 73, of Statenville passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. Walter was born on Dec. 13, 1930, to the late Joe and Ola Petty Rewis. He worked for many years in the forestry industry and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, J.T. and James Rewis.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Georgia Ruth Cantey Rewis, Statenville; three sons, John Rewis, Jack Rewis (Teisha) and Wally Rewis (Teresa), all of Statenville; three brothers, Glenn Rewis and Talmadge Rewis (Mary), all of Fargo and Nathan Rewis (Jessie Lee), Statenville; five sisters, Brunell Sutton and Jonnie Bennett, both of Statenville, Betty Jo Davis, Yulee, Fla., Ora Lee Rhoden (Buddy), Jacksonville, Fla. and Shirley Bradford (Lawson), Valdosta; sister-in-law, Ruby Rewis, Homerville; seven grandchildren Ashley, April, T.J., Johnathon, Jodi, Victoria and Nicole; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
