Aaron Bryant Jr.

VALDOSTA — Aaron Bryant Jr., 70, of Valdosta, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at 11:35 p.m. at his home.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1933, to the late Aaron Bryant Sr. and Rosomond Harris Bryant. He was the first black letter carrier (postman) in Valdosta and retired from Owens Illinois. He was educated in the Valdosta Public School System where he graduated in 1949, from Dasher High. A founding member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, he served as Deacon Board Chairman, choir member, Sunday School teacher and trustee.

He is survived by two sons, Terry Mazion of Japan and George Bryant of Richmond Hill, Ga.; four daughters, Carrie Mae Pettway of Bridgeport, Conn., Carolyn Bryant of Philadelphia, Pa., Joyce Jeff of Valdosta, and Lizelle McCoggle of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Richard Jones of Orlando, Fla., Petrell Kwesis Diori of Atlanta, David Bryant and Edgar Jones of Valdosta; six sisters, Lydia Howard, Sandra Reid and Sharon Jones of Valdosta, Edna Walker and Yvonne Campbell of Atlanta and Mildred Greer of Louisville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Jan. 24, 2004, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Albert Barfield, pastor, and the Rev. Aaron Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Stevens Funeral Home



William ‘Bill’ Conner

ADEL — William “Bill” Conner, 60, of Adel died Jan. 23, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1943, in Lowndes County to Margaret Chapman Conner and the late Oliver Arlington Conner. He lived in Cook County for 18 years. He was a cabinet builder and member of Antioch United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Crosby Conner of Adel; one son and daughter-in-law, Joie and Heather Conner, Lakeland; one daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Paul Griffis, Lakeland; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Louise Duren, Adel; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Susan and James Parr, Leesburg; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; mother, Margaret Chapman Conner, Lakeland; brother, James Conner, Adel; and two sisters, Linda Bruce, Lakeland, Patty Vanover of Duluth.

Eula Perkins Lazenby

FT. MYERS, Fla. — Eula Perkins Lazenby, 98, of Ft. Myers, Fla., died on Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Born on Sept. 29, 1905, in Elk Garden, Russell Co., Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Rebecca Grace Williams Perkins. Mrs. Lazenby was the oldest living graduate of Bluefield College and a charter member of Trinity Methodist Church, Bluefield, W. Va.

She is survived by daughter, Dorothy Martin of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Monie Lazenby of Ft. Myers; granddaughter, Sarah Lazenby of Ft. Myers; grandsons, Joseph Martin (Kathi) of Ft. Collins, Colo., B. Douglas Martin of Greensboro, N.C., Matthew Martin (Rebecca) of Valdosta, Bill Lazenby (Laurie) of Ft. Myers; great-grandchildren, Katherine Martin, Benjamin Martin both of Valdosta, Jonathan Simon, Jennifer Lazenby, Barbara Ann Lazenby, all of Ft. Myers; special nephew, Tim Calwell (Dianne) of Hillsville, Va.; special cousin, Libby Henry of Bluefield, W. Va.; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Lazenby was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Clyde Lazenby; and two sisters, Ruth Perkins and Elizabeth Calwell.

George McLendon

NASHVILLE — George McLendon, 56, of Nashville died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Berrien County to Frank Emmitt and Irene Knight McLendon. He was a forklift operator for Nashville Mills.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Linda Rowan McLendon of Nashville; two daughters, Donna McLendon, Becky Massey, both of Nashville; one son, John McLendon, Nashville; and one brother, Frank McLendon of Nashville.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Trawick officiating. Burial will be held in Long Bridge Cemetery. Brownley Riddick Petrasek

VALDOSTA — Brownley Riddick Petrasek, 91, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at a local nursing home. Born on Aug. 8, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Harry Postell Riddick and Eula E. Lovett Reddick. Mrs. Petrasek was an accountant for various businesses and at Moody AFB. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by cousins, Tommy Riddick of Manitoba, Canada, Walter Lovett of Orlando, Fla., Pat Lovett of Melbourne, Fla.; and a special friend, Madavern Davis of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Petrasek in 1964, and a sister, Ruthie Riddick.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Nathan Holsey Salter

FAYETTEVILLE — Nathan Holsey Salter, 77, of Fayetteville died Jan. 22, 2004, at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale.

Mr. Salter was a Navy veteran of World War II and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He graduated in 1950, with a degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech in Atlanta and worked for many years as a manufacturing manager in the automotive industry.

Holsey was a member of Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta. He had a lifelong passion for music and sang throughout his life in church choirs and musical productions. “Big Daddy” also had a lifelong passion for golf. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Howell Salter of Valdosta.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Norland Salter of Fayetteville and their children, Erik Salter of Atlanta and Sara Salter of Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bowers and her husband Mike of Woodstock; his son, James Salter and his wife Angela and their children, Jimmy and Luke of Pendergrass, Ga.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Peachtree Christian Church, 1580 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church. — Metro Crematory, Peachtree City



Ethel Colley Saunders

HOMERVILLE — Ethel Colley Saunders, 67, of Homerville passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 23, 2004, at her daughter’s residence in Hartsfield following an extended battle with cancer.

A native of Dougherty County, she had lived most her life in Clinch County, spending the last two years in Hartsfield. She was a member of Camp Creek Missionary Baptist Church and the daughter of the late Willie N. and Victoria Melton Colley Sr. Her brother, Willie N. Colley Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law, Juven and Ted Daniels of Hartsfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Virginia Johnson of Blackshear, Emory and Thersa Johnson of Temple, Texas; one sister, Bessie Harrell of Pearson; one brother, Wallace Colley of Lakeland; eight grandchildren, Brian, Emily and Teddy Daniels of Hartsfield, Steven and Austin Johnson and Rebecca Cason of Blackshear, Elizabeth and Andy Johnson of Temple, Texas; and several other relatives.

Services for Mrs. Saunders will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Camp Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Wayfare Cemetery neat Statenville.

Mrs. Saunders will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today. Mrs. Saunders will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. — Roundtree Funeral Home, Homerville
