Hugh Lincoln Boyd

VALDOSTA — Hugh Lincoln Boyd, 73 of Valdosta,, one of fourteen children was born to Mr. William Boyd and Mrs. Ida Williams in Clarendon Jamaica West Indies on March 23, 1931. His parents and two siblings preceded him in death. Mr. Boyd a long time native of Miami, Fla., Dade County was a retired carpenter construction worker. He relocated to Valdosta of this year where he resided until his death. Mr. Boyd was a dutiful and faithful servant of the Goulds Church of Christ from 1982 under the leadership of Brothers Wooten, Holloway and Gooding until he relocated to Valdosta and connected to the West Hill Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Zebedee Moore. Lincoln as he is called by his wife, had many young friends who loved to be in his company being taught about the way of the cross. His great-granddaughter affectionately called him “daddy-yo Linkco, Hugie, and Jitterbug.

He leaves to mourn his sad passing his wife, Laura Boyd; children, Fritz Boyd of Warrensburg, Mo., Sharron Hembert who preceded him in death, Cynthia Sangster of Atlanta, David Fernandez of Boynton Beach, Fla., Brenda Humphery of Atlanta, Bernadette Davis of Frederick, Md., Geffrey Laroda of Kansas City, Mo., Robert Grant, Ft. Valley, Patricia Moore, Texas, Linda Gordon, Flint, Mich., Wakeshia Boyd, Perrine, Fla., Alina Boyd and Oswin Boyd of Jamaica who preceded him in death, Sueset Boyd and Derrick Boyd of Kingston, Jamaica; five sisters, Gloria Gray and Cherry Boyd of Wolvehampton, England, Monica Boyd of Manhattan, N.Y. and Pearl Costello of Kingston Jamaica and Dairus Boyd who preceded him in death; nine brothers, Herman, Rubert, Densel, Birdie, Hartley, Gladston who preceded him in death, Vassell, Terry, Derrick, all of Kingston Jamaica; 28 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three god children, Brianna Baker, Brianna Troutman and Authur Watson, all of Miami, Fla.; a dear friend, Willie Escoffrey of Perrine, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Lenora Waters, Maggie Benton (Joe), Jimmie Lee Vickers (Melvin) and Gloria Jean McKinnon (Eddie B.) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other sorrowing relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 18, 2004 at West Hill Church Of Christ. Bro. Zebedee Moore Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Redland Cemetery in Ousley, Ga. — Scott And Roberts Mortuary



Paul Stanford Clements Sr.

DIXIE — Services for Paul Stanford Clements Sr., 72, of Dixie, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at Boston Church of God in Boston. The Rev. James Lott and the Rev. Teddy Ray Hunt will officiate and interment is in Grooverville Cemetery.

Mr. Clements died Dec. 14, 2004 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1932 in Colquitt County, Ga., he was a son of the late C.A. Clements Sr. and the late Irene Lampp. On Nov. 30, 1954 in Lowndes County, Ga., he married Genell S. Perry. He was a member of Boston Church of God, a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Dixie.

Survivors include his wife, Genell Perry Clements of Dixie; daughter, Debby Higgs and husband, Bobby of Quitman; sons, Stan Clements and wife, Kim of Dixie, Matthew D. Clements and wife, Jackie of Valdosta; sisters, Hazel Downing and husband, Larry of Valdosta, Joyce Phillips of Cuthbert; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. James Alvie Cook

NASHVILLE — James Alvie Cook, 86, of Nashville died Thursday Dec. 16, 2004 at the residence of his daughter. He was born on Jan. 28, 1918 in Lanier County to Lige and Eva Studstill Cook. He was a retired mechanic with Roberson Tractor Co. and Schwartz Pontiac-Oldsmobile-GMC-Nissan. He was a member of Calvary Temple Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hall Cook of Nashville; four daughters, Vernell Clark, Dean Hewitt, both of Valdosta, Chris Becker, Poquoson, Va., Tammy Steverson, Alapaha; three sons, Al Cook, Valdosta, Jimmy Cook, Jasper, Fla., Aldie Cumbuss, Nashville; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a son-in-law.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Stone and the Rev. Timothy Blanton officiating. Burial will be held in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. this evening. — Lovein Funeral Home



Dewie Frances Council Freeney

VALDOSTA — Dewie Frances Council Freeney, 95, passed this life on Dec. 13, 2004. Born in Glenmore, Ga., she together with her family moved to Valdosta. She attended Magnolia Street School and completed her secondary education at Dasher High School. She is the second of four siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. She was an avid homemaker who love to cook, sew and sing. To her delight, she met and married the late Rev. William Freeney who promised to love and cherish her until death, this he did happily. To this union were born two children, Frances Marie (deceased) and Willie Clarence. She embraced the Methodist faith in her younger years and was a loyal supporter of the Carter’s Temple CME Church in Valdosta.

Also remembering her in love are her granddaughter, Debbie; great-granddaughter, Donya; great-grandson, Timothy; great-great-granddaughter, Savannah; and great-great-great- granddaughter, Nadia.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harrington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home



Melburn Leon Hill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Melburn Leon Hill, 52, of Tallahassee died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004. He was born in Adel and had lived in Tallahassee for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Woodrun Baptist Church. He retired from Bayou Mechanical Inc. as a mechanical contractor. He loved fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his mother and father, Earl and Hazel Hill of Adel; wife, Michele B. Hill, Tallahassee, Fla.; one son, Matthew Earl Hill, Tallahassee, Fla.; one step son, Chase Lanway of Tallahassee; two daughters, Amanda Dawn Hill and Melissa Renee Hill, both of Adel; one step daughter, Amanda Lanway, Tallahassee, one uncle, Elmore Hill, Adel; one sister, Marlene Barrerro and husband Danny of Nashville, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 17, 2004 at Woodrun Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the Hill residence, 4340 Buttercup Way, Tallahassee, Fla. following the service. Kimberly Matheson

VALDOSTA — Kimberly Matheson, 43 of Valdosta died suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Matheson was born on Sept. 9, 1961 in Lansing, Mich. She was a registered nurse and homemaker. She was a devoted and loving mother and enjoyed being a mother to Jason and Kiley ages 16 years old and 22 months old. She loved to travel and lived in Michigan, Colorado, California, England, Las Vegas, Virginia, and Florida and then settled in Valdosta. She enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing and all sorts of crafts.

Survivors are her husband, Scott Matheson of Valdosta; son, Jason Brightman of Virginia; daughter, Kiley Louise Matheson of Valdosta; mother and step father, Janice and Dr. Kaare Lovoll of Valdosta; sisters and brother-in-law, Cindi Malone of Valdosta, Lisa and Jack Winningham of Valdosta; a half sister Stephanie Fisher of Mich.; a half brother Coleman Malone of Wash.; step sister and her husband, Vera and Randy Cigan of Mich.; step brother, Les Lovoll of Mich.; an aunt, Greer Malone of Calif. and several other relatives around the country. She was preceded in death by her father, Steven Walton Malone.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John Klimko officiating. Sandi Sorrell

MORVEN — Sandi Sorrell, 61, of Morven died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on May 23,1943 in Fairfield, Ill. to the late Bert and Irene Anderson. Mrs. Sorrell was a homemaker and served on the Hahira Better Hometown Committee.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Sorrell of Morven; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Vicki Sorrell of Mufreesboro, Tenn., Destry and Lisa Sorrell of Barney, Jeff and Jerri Sorrell of Mayday; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Brad Goolsby of Barney; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Higgins of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, George Anderson of Sanford, Fla. Mrs. Sorrell is preceded in death by a grandchild, Jenna Keller and one great-grandchild, Damion Burns.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with burial to follow in the Sardis Cemetery in Berlin, Ga. Jesse Graham Jr.

Jesse Graham Jr. , 29, resided at 418 N. Lee Street passed this life on Dec. 12, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Love Ministries Church with Pastor Kendrix J. Gardner officiating. Mr. Thomas “Tom Pete” Hollis, 88, of Nashville died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center. Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Daniels Williams, 57, originally of Barwick will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at the First A.B. Baptist Church in Barwick with the Rev.
