Larry Hargraves

ADEL — Larry Hargraves, 61, of Nashville died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at his residence.

Born Aug. 19, 1943, in Berrien County, he was the son of John J. Hargraves and Carrie Stone, both of who preceded him in death. He was a retired police officer with the City of Nashville. He was an Army veteran.

Survivors are his wife, Audrey Crosby Hargraves, Nashville; two daughters, Mica Mink and Pamela Collins, both of Valdosta; and a son, Sean Johnson, Valdosta; and a grandson, Nate Mink.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m., today, Dec. 24, 2004, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Adel. — Lovein Funeral Home



Mary Theron Roberts Henderson

VALDOSTA — Mary Theron Roberts Henderson, 86, of Roswell and formerly of Valdosta, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2004, in Atlanta. She was born in Lowndes County on Dec. 26, 1917, to the late Elizabeth Woodward Roberts and Leland Strickland Roberts. Mrs. Henderson was a graduate of Valdosta High School Class of 1935, and met her husband during World War II while both were training at Moody Air Force Base. Moving to Atlanta in 1950, Mrs. Henderson was a long-time member of Sandy Springs Garden Club, serving in several officer positions with the club, as well as the Heritage Sandy Springs and the Atlanta Council for Camp Fire Girls. She was a realtor in the Atlanta area for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Thomas Roy Henderson of Atlanta; her children, Janet Coolidge Winton and husband William of Atlanta, Joan Henderson Nolte and husband Brian; her brother, Louis Strickland Roberts; and nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leland Roberts Jr.; and a sister, Isabel Roberts.

Thomas Alton ‘Tommy’ Lumpkin

VALDOSTA — Thomas Alton “Tommy” Lumpkin, 50, of Valdosta passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Tifton on Jan. 1, 1954. He was employed with Reames Concrete for 17 1/2 years and was employed by Scruggs Concrete as plant manager until declining health forced him to resign. Mr. Lumpkin was preceded in death by his daughter, Lelia Melissa Lumpkin; and grandparents, Alton and Lois Lumpkin and Thomas and Selma Lumsden.

He is survived by his wife, Tamara “Tammy” Retzloff of Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in-law, T.J. and Miranda Lumpkin of Decatur, Eric M. Lumpkin and fianc Casie Dearman, Valdosta; daughter, Melissa High, Valdosta; parents, Lamar and Jewell Lumpkin of Valdosta; brother, Terry Lamar Lumpkin, Sparks; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Jennifer and Tony Troutt, Ariz.; two stepsons, Roshad Retzloff, Big Rapids, Mich., Nathaniel O’rme of Flint, Mich.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Adrian and Carla Cervini, Linden, Mich., Karl and Pat Retzloff, Florida; grandchildren, Matia, Adrianna Troutt, Kaley, Jasmine and Madison Dearman; brothers-in-law, Karl, Tim, Christopher Retzloff, all of Michigan; grandmother-in-law, Merle Hunt, Clint, Mich.; special friends, Marchelle Sullivan, Valdosta, Judy Seago, Valdosta; nieces, Charity Conger, Valdosta, Kristin Lumpkin, Kingsport, Tenn., Tabitha Lumpkin and Erin Garvitte, both of Sparks.

Ola Mae Williams

VALDOSTA — Ola Mae Nazareth Murphy Williams entered this life on Feb. 14, 1914, to the late Rev. Jessie Nazareth and Eliza Nazareth Davis of Punta Gorda, Fla. She entered her eternal home of sweet rest on Dec. 21, 2004, in Valdosta.

Mrs. Williams married the late Henry O. Murphy Jr. and to this union was born one child, Betty Alberta Murphy Council. She later married the late Mark Hannah Williams Sr. and to this union was born one child, Mark Hannah Williams Jr.

She was a faithful and dedicated servant of St. Paul AME Church of Valdosta for more than 50 years. She served on the Usher Board, the Stewardess Board and the Hannah B. Circle. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm. Mrs. Williams was also known as “Mrs. Mark,” owned and operated Williams Grocery for more than 30 years. Her older siblings, Lillie M. Etheridge, Irene Ellison, and Willie J. Dolve, preceded her in death. A niece, Ernestine Allen; and son-in-law, James F. Council Sr., also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Williams leaves to rejoice over her life her children, daughter Betty M. Council, Valdosta, son, Mark H. (Joann) Williams Jr. of Tampa, Fla.; stepdaughter, Latha M. (Bill) Speed of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Olivia (James R.) Dunn of Knightdale, N.C., Attorney James F. (Pauline) Council Jr., Arnell I. Council, Alma C. (Alvin) Brinson, all of Valdosta; Frederica C. (Gary) Jones of Dublin, Marc C. Williams, Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Attorney Marilyn F. Robert David (Bob) Bennett, 77, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Stanley and the Rev. John Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
