VALDOSTA — Greg Bennett has worked on farms and with tools all his life, dreaming about owning his own supply store one day. His dream came true when he purchased Priced Right Farm Supply and Hardware on St. Augustine Road on Oct. 26.
The store was founded in October 2003 by Bennett’s close friend Tim Fuller. A year later, the business was just getting on its feet. While it was successful, there were still many people who did not know what it had to offer.
When Fuller decided to continue with another business venture, Bennett seized the opportunity to advance the supply/hardware business.
“I feel it is something Valdosta has always needed, so I picked up where he left off,” Bennett said, referring to the distance farmers previously had to drive to purchase quality farming equipment.
Things were slow for him at first. Business is picking up now that spring has arrived. He attributes his increasing success to his faith and thanks God for this opportunity to follow his dreams.
Since October, he has made several important changes, including the addition of Kodiac equipment, Lodge Cookware, Cajun commercial-grade cookers, toolboxes by United Welding Services and Custom Design Industries and Weaver horse tack supply. Customers can now purchase bolts, grades five and eight, by the pound as well. In addition, he has increased the existing inventory.
Bennett plans to put in more large equipment as well, such as TeeJet spray equipment for farmers, Country Clipper commercial and homeowner lawnmowers, welders and welding accessories and a variety of other equipment parts and accessories.
Bennett held a grand opening April 16 in an effort to promote Priced Right Farm Supply and Hardware. During the event, he gave away $2,000 worth of door and drawing prizes. Several antique tractors were on display and refreshments were served.
Two country radio stations were on location at the event and many new people came to enjoy the festivities.
Bennett deemed the event a success. “I saw a number of new people that found out we were here, and that was our goal — to let people know we are here to serve them,” he said.
Customers are a blend of farmers and ordinary people buying lawnmowers and hardware. Many are also horse riders and rodeo participants. Every customer receives the same low prices, quality products and helpful service.
Prices are very competitive because Bennett purchases in bulk and sells his inventory at the lowest price possible. He feels that it is important to keep them low because it attracts customers. “I offer it at a low price to save them money, and people need all the help they can get,” he said.
In addition to low prices, customers benefit from the convenience Priced Right provides. The atmosphere of Priced Right is low-pressure and relaxed. Service is quick and the employees are ready to serve.
Bennett’s staff consists of Mike Becton, Mansy Curtis and Ricardo Hernandez. His father, Ronald Bennett, helps out as well.
Bennett has always enjoyed working with people and providing good service. Serving the people of Lowndes and the surrounding counties is what he enjoys the most about owning and operating the store.
“In this day and time, (good service) has gone away, so it is something that I emphasize,” he said. “Our customers get the best service. If I don’t have (a product), I will get it as long as that is feasible for me to do.”
Price Right Farm Supply and Hardware is located at 825 S. St. Augustine Road and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
