Simpson, Norman awarded scholarships

VALDOSTA — Valdosta Technical College Foundation announced two scholarships were awarded to Valerie Nicole Simpson and Jennifer Diane Norman.
Both students competed for the Dan Hatfield Jr. Scholarship, an endowed scholarship made possible by a $20,000 gift to the VTC Foundation from Tom and Susan Putnam in honor of her father.
During the final judging, a trustee contributed $1,000 so that two winners could be announced. The judges could not decide between the final two candidates.
Simpson, of Barney, is enrolled in the Radiologic Technology Program at Valdosta Tech and has a 3.8 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. She was a 2003 Georgia Occupation Award of Leadership nominee and is currently on the President’s List of high academic achievers. A graduate of Lowndes High School, she is a part-time employee of Cracker Barrel Restaurant. She has a 4-year- old daughter.
Norman, of Hahira, is enrolled in the Accounting Program and has a 3.89 GPA. She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and serves as secretary to the organization. She serves as a tutor for fellow Valdosta Tech students and has been on the President’s List every quarter of her enrollment. She has a 3-year-old daughter.
Each recipient will receive $1,000 during the next year. One-fourth of the money will be disbursed quarterly to pay for tuition, books, supplies, equipment or any item the students need to succeed in school.
