VALDOSTA — The Haven’s Rape Crisis Center will hold its second annual fund-raiser at Fazoli’s restaurant on 1307 N. St. Augustine Road, said Mandy Rowe, The Haven’s executive director.

Last year, the fund-raiser was held on a Saturday and Sunday and raised $800, said Karen Mortensen, RCC manager. Last year, people showed up on Friday thinking the fund-raiser was taking place, so this year they are holding the event Friday through Sunday.

Rowe believes scheduling the fund-raiser on a holiday weekend before Martin Luther King Jr. Day could be helpful. People may drop by Fazoli’s and have dinner before they leave town.

Volunteers will work two-hour shifts and will collect donations. The volunteers will deliver breadsticks, clean tables, fill drinks and also give information about The Haven’s programs.

“Our goal is to raise at least $1,000,” Rowe said.

The funding will be used for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program and supplies for the examination room at the RCC, Mortensen added.

The fund-raiser will be Rowe’s first since she became executive director at The Haven on Jan. 5. “I would like to thank the community for their support over the holidays to The Haven, and for their continuing support,” Rowe said.
