$26,000 confiscated by local drug interdiction unit

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Drug Interdiction Unit confiscated $26,000 Friday night, April 8 during a traffic stop. Lafayette County Sheriff Carson McCall said, “I believe the perpetrators from Taylor County were bound for a drug sale in Gainesville, but our unit put a stop to their plan.”
Arrested were: Robert Henry Glanton, 31, 309 Folsom Place, Perry and Michael Eugene Walker, 46, 113 West Fiksin St., Perry.
The arrests were made after the Interdiction Unit, (LCSO Deputy Scott Hamlin, K-9 Deputy Geoff Condy/J.D. and Sgt. Lonny Hempstead/Paska stopped the 1998 Ford SUV about 10 miles east of Mayo on U.S. 27 at 11:30 p.m. for a traffic violation. Hamlin made the initial stop followed by a search of the two occupants and the vehicle by the Interdiction Unit that turned up $26,000 in cash, cocaine residue, a small amount of marijuana and other items the sheriff declined to name.
Hamlin said, “Once again the Unit’s training brings good results.”
Glanton was charged with possession of cannabis, and Walker was charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis.
The duo was taken to Lafayette County Detention Center. Glanton was released on $1000 bond and Walker was released on $5000 bond.
