The Bucs lost to Newberry 15-5. Newberry started off hot with 5 runs in the first innings. Branford answered with 3 runs of their own in the first on a damp night. Branford kept the game close until the fifth and sixth inning when Newberry’s hot bats and errors plagued the Bucs. The starting pitcher of the contest was Brandon Gardner who pitched well considering the wet conditions. Pitchers from both teams struggled early to get a handle of the slippery baseballs. Other pitchers of record were Joseph Garrett, Kyle Hayes and J.D. Strickland. The Bucs could only manage five hits, and had four errors on the night. Joseph Garrett had a big hit in the first inning with the bases loaded to score three big runs. Also picking up hits were Dustin Bonds and Bobby Engskow. The Bucs remain hopeful for the remainder of the season, knowing Newberry is an older and more experienced ball club. Newberry fielded nine seniors and look to challenge for the top spot of

District 8 in Class 3A.

Branford defeated Bronson on Thursday night 9-1. The bats were hot with 7 of 9 starting players collecting hits. Junior third baseman Kyle Hayes was 2-3 with a double and Bonds was 1-1 with a solo home run in the second inning. The Bucs scored 3 in the second inning which was just a precursor to what was in store for the rest of the night. Scott Warren pitched a complete game going seven strong innings allowing only two hits and zero earned runs while notching 10 strikeouts in the contest. The Bucs played almost flawless defense recording only one error on a pickoff attempt in the first inning. David Campbell, Colton Spivey and Bonds played excellent defense as did the rest of the team throughout the game, according to Bonds. The win puts the Bucs at 4-5 for the season and 3-3 in the district.

The Bucs hope to continue to play well the second half of their season following spring break which is the week of the 28th-1st of April.
