Criminal investigation into Drew Combee death

A criminal investigation is underway in the death of Drew Combee who died while boating and skiing with friends on the Suwannee and Santa Fe River, Sunday, June 22.
According to Sgt. Neil Martin investigator with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission the cause of death had not been determined as of late Monday, June 30, and a report from the medical examiner’s office in Jacksonville, is forthcoming. Combee’s body was recovered almost 48 hours after the accident was reported, by law enforcement officers.
Sgt. Martin said interviews with occupants in the water craft will be conducted beginning this week, as well as other people along the river or on the river the day of the accident. He said, “Robert Carl Phon, 20, of Live Oak who was reported to be the driver of the boat was given a field sobriety test on Sunday evening and did not appear to be under the influence.”
Passengers in the 20 foot Monterey water craft with Combee on June 22 appeared to be: Dustin Lee Gilbert, 17 of Valdosta; Robert Carl Phon, 20, of Live Oak, Matt John Alford, 18, of Live Oak, and Kendra L. Colvin, 18 of Live Oak.
“How far we take this investigation will depend on what we find as we go along, ” said Sgt. Martin.
Funeral services for Combee were held Saturday at 3 p.m. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.
