Fourth of July plans taking shape

Plans continue on target for the annual River Reunion celebration to be held Friday, July 4 in Branford. An old fashion 4th of July will be the theme.



Oscar Cramer, chairperson for entertainment spoke of the lineup and said “things are coming together real well, and we’ll have a good variety of entertainment for both young and those not so young, so everyone will have a good time.”



Cramer is planning a Karoake contest with the top prize being $50. A second and third place prize of $25 and $10 will also be given. According to Cramer a good variety of patriotic music will be played during the day- there will be games, sac races, a dunking booth and so much more.

Entertainment will begin immediately following the patriotic pet contest. Registration for this will be from 9:30 to 10:30 with judging beginning at 11 a.m. Edith Eudy is heading up the best dressed pet contest and can be reached at 935-4141. There will be a $5 entry fee per pet. First, second, third and fourth place prizes of $50, 25, 15 and 10 will be awarded to the winners.

On June 7, the annual River Reunion Pageant will be held and winners will take part in the parade to be held at 5 p.m.



The annual parade will be led by families of the 269th reserve unit, who are expected to be parade marshals.



Skylighters of Florida will again light up the sky over Branford when Gilbert Bernardo assisted by members of the volunteer fire department will shoot fireworks as the grand finale to the day’s events.



Bernardo told the News, “we try to make each year bigger and better because this community draws such a crowd for fireworks. We have a great line up this year.”



The annual Rotary Club sponsored duck race will be at 2 p.m. on the Suwannee River. Tickets are currently on sale. The top prize of $500 is once again sponsored by Walt’s Live Oak Ford, ‘second prize of $300 by Suwannee Industrial Solutions; and third prize of $200 by Capital City Bank.



Food and craft booth space is available on the Greenway for a $30 registration fee. This will be on a first come first serve basis. For information call after 6 p.m., 935-0021 Peggy Terry or the Branford News at 386-935-1427.
