Hamilton County loses good friend

W.P. “Junior” Griffin, Jennings, passed away at his home on Sunday, Jan. 4 2004.
Griffin was a loyal and loving family man dedicated to his Lord and his church. A good friend to all, Griffin’s dedication to his community was evident in his service to Hamilton County and its people. He was an avid supporter of United Way and its projects and served on the Board of Hamilton County Public Schools, both as member and as chairman several times, from November 1978 to November 1997. He was Hamilton County Public School Foundation Advisor.
Griffin was a volunteer coach for the Hamilton County High School Trojans for many years. His career with Occidental/PCS Chemical Company spanned 37 years, and Griffin was a dedicated member and lay leader at Jennings United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Annaree Hiers Griffin; one daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Derrick Jones; one son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Joanna Griffin, all of Jennings; and one sister and brother-in-law, Vonnie and Marty Wood, Jasper, Florida; his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Ann Hiers of Jennings; and three grandsons, Bailey and Conner Jones and Austin Griffin.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at Sassers Landing Cemetery with Rev. Jake Brady and Dr. Jimmy Dees officiating.
