Steven Henry Keen, 37, 879 Nursery Rd. Day, Fl. was arrested Saturday, September 13 and charged with possession of methamphetamine/possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia in Mayo.

According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Deputy Geoff Condy observed a green 2000 Cavalier speeding about four miles west of Mayo on State Road 20. Condy fell in behind the vehicle and pulled the vehicle over when it was established that the driver was exceeding the legal speed. Condy was joined by fellow officer Deputy Scott Hamlin and Sheriff Carson McCall shortly after the stop was initiated.

Approaching the vehicle the officers asked the driver (Keen) for permission to search the vehicle and Keen refused.

Having sufficient reason to conduct a search, LCSO contacted Taylor County Deputy Harper Gibson and K-9 Jeremiah. Gibson conducted a walk around the vehicle with the K-9. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle and a search was conducted that resulted in a baggie containing methamphetamine, a box of cannabis and rolling papers, a (roach) of cannabis and three syringes.

Keen was taken into custody and remains in the Lafayette County Detention Center on $30,000 bond.

“I commend Deputies Condy and Hamlin for being alert to narcotics,” said Sheriff McCall. He also stressed the importance of traffic interdiction that has been a proven tool in stopping drug traffic in Lafayette County.

The LCSO expressed a special appreciation to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and to Deputy Harper Gibson and K-9 Jeremiah for their quick and professional response in combating the war on drugs.
