Katie Smith, Suwannee’s star softball pitcher, has signed a letter of intent to attend North Florida Community College and play softball. Smith’s family, coaches, faculty members, friends and teammates attended the signing at the Suwannee High media center Tuesday, May 3.

NFCC’s softball coach Joe Morabito was there to welcome Smith. He heard about her, came to watch her play and offered her a scholarship.

“Katie has been a pitcher since she started,” dad Jeff Smith said. “She may not pitch in college, but she’ll play where she’s needed.”

Jeff is happy Katie will be playing softball and attending school close to home where he can still watch her play. Jeff is the current softball coach at Suwannee High.
