Suwannee’s Lady Dog basketball took on East Gadsden in an away game on Monday, Jan. 5. The girls struggled to score even with the help of newly eligible Lady Dog star Shemella Brady. The final score was a miserable 37-85.
The East Gadsden team is currently rated third in the state in Class 3-A. They showed Suwannee why they have this rating Monday night.
The Lady Dogs were blown out of the water early. Scoring only seven points to East Gadsden’s 25 in the first period and seven more to an East Gadsden 22 in the second period. The Lady Dogs went into the locker room at the half down 14-47.
But the Lady Dogs came back and out-scored East Gadsden in the third period 18-15. The rally was short-lived. East Gadsden went ahead 5-23 over the Lady Dogs in the fourth period for a final score of 37-85.
Brady was the top scorer for Suwannee with 12 points. Sharon Jelks had nine points. Erika Haynes had six points. Dominique Brown had only five points. Brown has been one of Suwannee’s top shooters. Cheretta Ross had three points and Parris Perry had two points.
The Lady Dogs travel to Madison tonight to take on the Lady Cowboys in a marathon basketball event that includes all four Suwannee basketball teams. The JV girls get things started at 3:30 p.m. followed by the JV Dogs, the Lady Dogs and the Suwannee Bulldogs will hit the court around 8 p.m. Come out and support the basketball program in Madison. It’s always a tough town to play in. They have some very enthusiastic fans over there. Show them how much we care about our player sin Suwannee County. Go Lady Dogs!
