Suwannee County puts out some awesome football players. If you watched the recent FSU/Miami game you know this. Suwannee’s own 2001 graduate Kyler Hall, now a senior rover for the Seminoles, made a standout interception in the first quarter of the game and led the FSU defense with 12 tackles.
On the Miami side of the ball, Suwannee High graduate and senior Hurricane Kelly Jennings helped lead the Miami defensive effort. Jennings had many good tackles and almost made an interception himself.
Sitting on the bench for FSU was Hall’s brother Logan. Sitting on the bench for Miami was Jennings nephew and 2005 SHS graduate Bruce Johnson.
The Seminoles won the knock-down drag-out defensive battle 10-7. UM made a bunch of mistakes allowing a team record nine sacks, dropping passes on third down, missing two field goals and allowing a blocked punt.
Miami and FSU both started new quarterbacks in this kickoff game of the season. Kyle Wright started for Miami. Wright spent so much time in the dirt, it was tough to see his potential. But if Wright can get some protection, he looks like he will live up to his rep.
FSU struggled offensively. The Noles started Drew Weatherford. Weatherford was shaky and made some mistakes, completing seven of 24 for 67 yards. FSU subbed in Weatherford’s competition for the quarterback job Xavier Lee in the fourth quarter. Lee was also ineffective against the strong Miami defense.
With the 10-7 win, FSU broke a six-game losing streak to Miami.
