Lafayette County Sheriff’s Investigator Sgt. John Young was called to the Mayo Correctional Institution (MCI) August 24 in regards to a 34-year-old Macclenny resident that had been caught by MCI officers as she attempted to introduce contraband into the prison compound.

According to Young’s report he arrested Melanie Anderson, who listed her mailing address as P.O. Box 512, Glen St. Mary, on charges of introduction of contraband into a state facility, possession of controlled substance and conspiracy, and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. Introduction of contraband into a state facility and conspiracy are felony charges while possession of a controlled substance (under 20 grams) is a misdemeanor said Young.

Young said Col. Gerald Roberts said the arrest was the result of an ongoing observation into the activities of the suspect when she made her visits to see an inmate at MCI.
