Nadine L. Wade
Nadine L. Wade, 82, of Live Oak, passed away Aug. 21, 2003, in Shands at Live Oak Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Wade was born in Michigan, moved to Live Oak in 1976 from Jacksonville, worked at Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, as a certified nurses aide, and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: her daughter, Josette Banks, Live Oak; three grandsons, Master Sgt. Jonathan J. Banks, Marine Corps, Michael A. Banks and Joseph R. Buda; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittaney D. Buda, Brandi P. Banks, Priscilla L. Banks, Krista J. Buda, Zachery Banks, Joshua A. Banks, Stacy Nur, Ashley Kerce, Wendi Canter and Jason Morefield. She was preceded in death by her sister, Murel Schobert and two brothers, Bramwell and Francis Christy.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m., Aug. 23, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Live Oak, with the Rev. Bobby McCray officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Debbie Moree
Debbie Moree, 50, of Branford, passed away Aug. 18, 2003.
Services were held at 11 a.m., Aug. 23, at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Branford.

Blake Andrew Townsend
Blake Andrew Townsend, infant son of Michael and Carol Ann Townsend passed away Aug. 20, 2003, in the Shands at the University of Florida Medical Center, Gainesville.
Blake is survived by: his parents Michael and Carol Ann Townsend; his brother, Brock Townsend; his sister, Natalie Townsend all of Lake City; his paternal grandparents, Lewis Ray and Tammy Townsend of Branford; Debbie and Don Maulden of Wellborn; his maternal grandparents, Carolyn Raper of Lake City and Joseph Howell of Wellborn; his paternal great-grandparents, Muriel Dukette of Wellborn; and Yvonne Townsend of Lake City and his maternal great-grandmother, Dolly Scott of Lake City.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Aug. 25, in the First Assembly of God in Live Oak with the Rev. Stanley Ellis officiating assisted by Pastor Donald Suggs. Interment followed in the Hatchbend Apostolic Church Cemetery in Lafayette County.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Biggs Funeral Home, Lake City.
Jackson Sherman Koon
Jackson Sherman Koon, 70, of Ocala, formerly of Suwannee County, passed away on Aug. 22, 2003, at home. Born July 7, 1933, in Hildreth, he was the son of the late Jessie James Koon and Thenie Collins Koon. He was employed as a sales representative for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company and served in the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, was a Christian and a member of Highlands Baptist Church in Ocala. He enjoyed reading the Bible, NASCAR racing, friends and family.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Davis Koon of Ocala; one daughter, Pam (Les) Foster of Ocala; one son, Jackson Keith Koon of O’Brien; one step-son, Bill Watson of Ocala; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren of Ocala; four sisters, Ottiest Akins of Bell, Minnie Mellette of Branford, Berdie Sue Register of O’Brien and Norma Edwards of Lake City; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474 or Highlands Baptist Church, 3530 SE Ft. King St., Ocala, FL 34470.
Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Aug. 25, at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery, Ft. White with the Rev. Jeff Rountree officiating. A memorial service was held at 5 p.m., Aug. 24, at the Highlands Baptist Church, Ocala.

Melvin J. Arbie
Melvin J. Arbie, 72, of Live Oak, passed away Aug. 18, 2003, in the Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Ore. The Liberty, Texas native moved to Live Oak 33 years ago from Galena Park, Texas. He retired after 38 years from the Occidental Chemical Corporation as a superintendent, then later coming out of retirement at the age of 70, he started Arbie Trucking as owner and operator for long haul service. In the last eight months he began team driving with his grandson Tommy Reigel. He served during the Korean conflict with the United States Air Force. He was a member of the North Florida Blue Grass Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association of Live Oak, and was of Catholic faith.
He is survived by: his wife, Pat Arbie, Live Oak; one daughter, Deanna Riegel, Wellborn; one son: Joe and Vickie Arbie, Lake City; one sister: Mildred Lowrey, Lakeland; nine grandchildren: Tommy Riegel, Timothy Riegel, Mitchell Riegel, Jessica Riegel, Jennifer Riegel, Michael Riegel, Linda Riegel, Kevin Lammers and Kyle Lammers.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 26, at the Daniels Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Martha Rae Brannon and Mr. Doug Lowery officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Andrew Jackson Clothier III, 88, of Live Oak, passed away April 24, 2003 in Suwannee Health Care Center, Live Oak.

Jack “Buster” Wood
Jack “Buster” Wood, 75, of Live Oak, passed away Aug. 23, 2003 in the Lake City Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Baker County, but lived in Live Oak most of his life. He retired after 15 years as a mechanic at Occidental Chemical Company in White Springs and was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include: his wife of 56 years, Ernie Mae Wood, Live Oak; three daughters, Annette Stringfield and Linda Wood both of Jacksonville and Jacquelyn Wood, Live Oak; one son, Frank William “Smokey” Wood, Live Oak, one sister, Florence Prevatt, Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Aug. 26, at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak, with the Rev. David McKeithen officiating. Interment followed in Crawford Lake Cemetery, McAlpin.

Gregory “Greg” Lee Taylor
Gregory “Greg” Lee Taylor, 54, of Alma, Ga., passed away suddenly Aug. 22 at the farm. He was a native of Bacon County and attended The Alma First Baptist Church. He was the grandson of late paternal grandparents Luther W. “Woot” Taylor Sr. and Oveda Anderson Taylor and late maternal grandparents Hobart H. Lee and Kitty Sikes Lee.
Survivors include: his father and mother, L. W. Taylor Jr. and Norma Lee Taylor of Alma, Ga.; two sons, James Phillip Herrington and wife Cristina of Live Oak and Lee Weston Taylor of Alma, Ga.; one brother, Jonthan Martin “Marty” Taylor and wife Melinda of Marietta, Ga.; one grandchild, Emmaleigh Hope Herrington of Live Oak and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Aug. 25, at The Alma First Baptist Church, Alma, Ga., with the Rev. Lance Wade, the Rev. Richard Johnson and the Rev. Brett Howell officiating. Interment followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery, Alma, Ga.
Active pallbearers were: Dale Morris, Larry Taylor, Larry Jones, Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor, Harold Bodrey, Gene Bodrey, Johnny Bodrey, Jerry Coffee, and Sam Graham. All those in attendance were considered honorary escorts.

Melvin Lewis Chauncey
Melvin Lewis Chauncey, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away Aug. 25, 2003 in Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville after a brief illness. A native of Live Oak, he had been a resident of Jacksonville since 1957 having moved there from Suwannee County. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II, a welder employed by the Jacksonville Ship Yards until his retirement in 1981 and also worked on the family farm. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and loved gardening. He was preceded in death on Aug. 17, 2003 by his wife of sixty years, Edna Evans Chauncey.
Survivors include: his son, William L. “Bill” Chauncey of Jacksonville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Aug. 28, in the Biggs Memorial Chapel with Dr. Ronnie McKenzie officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Biggs Funeral Home, Lake City.
William N. “Dub” Goff Sr.
William N. “Dub” Goff Sr., age 79, of Live Oak, passed away Aug. 26, 2003 in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville. The Suwannee County native was an assistant regional sales manager 33 years for Sea Board Coastline in Tallahassee, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during World War II and a member of First Baptist Church, Live Oak.
Survivors include: his wife, Virginia Goff, Live Oak; one daughter, Deborah G. Case, Tega Cay, S.C.; one son, William N. Goff Jr., Jacksonville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 29, at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak with the Rev. Jim Robinett officiating. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery with military rites at cemetery.

Rick Cathcart Sr.
Rick Cathcart Sr., 67, of Live Oak, passed away Aug. 25, 2003 in his home after a long illness. The Los Angeles, Calif. native moved to Live Oak from Tampa in 1971. Rick and Pat were a husband and wife team, driving trucks for Oakley Tank Lines, Lake Wales, for 10 years. He was of Protestant faith, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict, a member of Barrett Lodge No. 43, American Legion No. 57 and Elks Lodge No. 1165 of Live Oak.
Survivors include: his wife, Pat Cathcart, Live Oak; three daughters, Teresa Robinette, Columbus, Ohio; Jerri Ann Hart and Robin Sue Cathcart Cole, both of Live Oak; two sons, Thomas Leslie Cathcart, Newcomerstown, Ohio and Richard B. Cathcart Jr., Live Oak; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Kay Cross of Bakersfield, Calif.
Memorial services were conducted at 6 p.m., Aug. 27 at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak with Pastor Phillip Sumner officiating and Masonic rites. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606. The family wishes to send a special thanks for the blessing of Hospice nurses.

Mamie Sandlin
Mamie Sandlin, 82, of Live Oak, passed away Aug. 22, 2003 in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, after a short illness. The Suwannee County native retired after 30 years as a bookkeeper with White Auto Store, Live Oak and was a member of Advent Christian Church, Live Oak.
Survivors include: one son, Jack Henry Sandlin, Starke; three sisters, Pauline Howe, Thibodaux, La., Jacqueline Mixon and Elizabeth Wooley, both of Live Oak; two grandchildren, Deelila and Amie Sandlin, both of Live Oak; and one great-grandchild, A.J. Kelly, Live Oak.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Aug. 28, at Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Carver officiating. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery.

Carr, David Hunt
David Hunt Carr, 67, passed away Aug. 19, in Bayfront Medical Center. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, moving to Live Oak in 1981.
He was employed as a termite supervisor at Live Oak Pest Control, Inc., McAlpin for 22 years. He was veteran of the National Guard and of Baptist faith.
Survivors include: one son, Tucker Carr, St. Petersburg; daughter-in-law, Michele Carr, St. Petersburg; and one granddaughter, Riley Carr, St. Petersburg.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 6, at Pine Mount Baptist Church, on US 129 South, in McAlpin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society in his memory. 1/800/227-2345.

Hartley, Ellen M.
Ellen M. Hartley, 63, died August 13, 2003. Mrs. Hartley was born February 16, 1940 in Germany, and moved to the Branford area in 1992 from Orlando. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hartley is survived by her husband, Rex Hartley of Branford; a daughter Mel Brandenburg of Orlando; a son Richard Hartley of Orlando; a brother, Bodo Judith, of Germany, two grandchildren Shelby Brandenburg and Kyle Hartley.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Daniels Memorial Chapel with Mr. Bob Fletcher officiating.

Jackson Sherman Koon, 70, of Ocala, formerly of Suwannee County, died on Friday, August 22, at home. Born July 17, 1933 in Hildreth, he was the son of the late Jessie James Koon and Thenie Collins Koon.
Mr. Koon was employed as a sales representative for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company. He served in the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of the disabled American Veterans. He was a Christian and a member of Highlands Baptist Church in Ocala. He enjoyed reading the Bible, Nascar racing, and friends and family.

Joseph Odonal Kerby
Mr. Joseph Odonal Kerby, age 83, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Lafayette Health Care in Mayo. A native of Lafayette County, Mr. Kerby has lived in Mayo since 1936 when he returned here from Kathleen, FL. He was a W.W. II veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Kerby founded the Mayo Gas Company in 1953, and co-founded Kerby’s Dairy in 1979 along with his son.
He was a former Mayor of Mayo, a charter member of the Lafayette County Development Authority, and also a charter member of the American Legion in Lafayette County. Mr. Kerby was a former VA Service officer, a former member of the regional armed services draft board, and a former member of the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary. He enjoyed being a licensed Amateur Ham Operator, fishing and gardening in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ernesteen S. Kerby of Mayo. Other survivors include; one son; Everett Kerby and wife Sue of Mayo, two daughters; Barbara Trawick and husband Paul of Mayo, and Judy Lynn Barrington and husband Gregg of Luraville, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. he is preceded in death by a brother, Mabry Kerby and a sister, Irene Pearson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Airline Baptist Church in Mayo. Interment followed at the Airline Church Cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Burns Mayo Chapel.

Myrtle H. Lewis, 90, of St. Petersburg, passed away August 22, 2003. Mrs. Lewis was the wife of the late Hill C. Lewis and lived most of her life in Hamilton County.
Survivors include: one daughter, Xandra Hunter, St. Petersburg; two grandsons, Col. Timothy Hunter, Kaneohe, Hawaii and Bryan Hunter, Front Royal, Va.; one great granddaughter, Laura Hunter; one sister, Edna Knapp of Jasper.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Dr. William Floyd officiating.
