Lewis, Ronny
Ronny Lewis, 48, of Branford, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Shands of University Hospital in Gainesville. The Lake City native lived in Branford all of his life. He was a cook and assistant manager of Nell’s Restaurant for 25 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Branford.
He is survived by his wife, Belinda Lewis of Branford; mother, Nell Lewis of Branford; two daughters, Dawn and Mark Mott and Kelly and Josh Humphries, both of Branford; one son, Kevin and Martie Lewis of Branford; two sisters, Charlene Joyner of Lake City and Darlene Davenport of Branford; two brothers, Tommy Lewis of Branford and Troney Lewis of Mayo; maternal grandmother Dovie Hatch of Branford. Four grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were conducted April 12, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Branford with Rev. Eddie Blalock and Rev. Bryan Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Memorial Cemetery.
Daniels Funeral Home of Branford was in charge of all arrangements.

Harlow J. Hewitt
Mr. Harlow J. Hewitt, age 83, died on Sunday, April 6, 2003. A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette County. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service where he was a Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of WW II, and also worked at Perry Road Prison, one of the last wooden prisons, and retired from Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department.
He was the son of the late Wesley Hewitt and the late Katie (Thomas) Hewitt. Preceded in death by a son Brian Hewitt.
Survivors include: Ex-wife, Sheila Hewitt of Mayo, 3 sons; David and Laura Hewitt of Mayo, Phillip and Sandy Hewitt of Mayo, John Hewitt of Gainesville, 2 daughters; Dorothy and Charles Crane of New Orleans, LA, Edith Hewitt and Fiancee David Wilson of Lake City, 5 sisters; Esther Jackson of South Florida, Verneil Johnson of Luraville, Eloise Murrel of Milton, Jean Bell of Day, and Joan Murray, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Johnny Maine
Johnny Maine, 83, Statenville, Ga., passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Lake City V.A. Medical Center.
The Echols County native and lifelong resident was a retired state employee and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include one son, Robin Maine, Statenville; two daughters, Diane Manac, Statenville, and Kathleen Kennedy, Douglas, Ga.; one brother, Robert Maine, Lake City; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 13, 2003 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Lofton officiating. Internment followed in Statenville Cemetery.

Frank A. Lyons
Mr. Frank A. Lyons passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center following a lengthy illness.
He moved to the Jasper area in 1979 from New York. He was a retired truck driver and also worked briefly for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Dept. and Ulster County Sheriff’s Dept. He is survived by his very close friends, Glynn and Roberta Hutchinson of Jasper.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Corinth Baptist Church for Mr. Lyons. Rev. Gary Abbott officiated.

Ethel Mae Thomas Demps
Ethel Mae Thomas Demps, 94, Live Oak, Fla. was called home to the Lord as she peacefully slept Tuesday morning, April 8, 2003 in her “Ormond of the Pine” nursing home bed, after a long illness.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter Josephine Oliver (William Oliver, Sr.); eight grandchildren, Marilyn Oliver, Gainesville, Ethel Marie Oliver, William Oliver, Jr., Ricky Oliver, Ella Mae Ortiz (Siwhoo Ortiz), Vanessa Franklin (Deacon G. Dennis Franklin),Willie James and Linda Dadd (Carlos Dadd) all of Daytona Beach; twenty five great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren, three nephews, Johnny Lee Fleming, Tommy Thomas and John Thomas, all of Live Oak. Home-going service will be held Saturday, April 19, at African Missionary Baptist Church, Live Oak, Fla., at 11 a.m., Rev. Alex Fountain pastor, officiating.
Interment follows at St. James Cemetery, Lake City, Fla.

Warren G. Avery
Warren G. Avery, 79, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2003 in the Kindred Hospital of North Florida, Green Cove Springs, Fla. He was a life long resident of Live Oak, a member of the Miami Masonic Lodge and was of Advent Christian faith.
Survivors include his daughter: Denise Avery-Simmons, Live Oak; one son: Darion Avery, Plantation, Fla., two brothers, Garner Avery, Branford, Fla. and Austin Avery, Live Oak, Fla.; two grandchildren: Jennifer Avery, Plantation, Fla. and Nicholas Simmons, Live Oak, Fla.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 18, 2003, at 3 p.m. in the Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Jim Walkup officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
