Henry Mattox Ward Sr.

Henry Mattox Ward Sr., 86, of Lake City, passed away, September 17, 2004, at the Lake City Extended Care Center. Born June 9, 1918, he had been a resident of Suwannee County for most of his life and was retired from farming. Ward was a very successful farmer and businessman, and was one of the pioneers in developing irrigation for tobacco barns. He built the first grain elevator and fertilizer manufacturing plant in this part of the country. Ward was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Suwannee County and was preceded in death by his wife Doris Johnson Ward in 2001.



Survivors include his three sons, H. Mattox Ward Jr., Francis Ward (Jo) and Baynard Ward (Judy), all of Lake City; one sister Thelma Brown of Oviedo; seven grandchildren, Marnie Ward (Susan) of Jacksonville, Darryl Ward, Ashley Todd (Chris), William Ward (Rhonda) and Scott Ward (Natalie), all of Lake City, Traci Dix (Donald) of Jacksonville and Baynard Ward Jr. (Mary) of Live Oak; and 16 great-grandchildren.



Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Suwannee County with the Rev. Leroy Dobbs officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall immediately following the funeral services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Hospice of the Suwannee Valley, 618 SW Florida Gateway Drive, Lake City, FL 32024 or to the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802.

Ernest J. “E.J.” Hendrickson Sr.

Ernest J. “E.J.” Hendrickson Sr., 86, of Live Oak, passed away Friday, September 17, 2004, in the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City after a long illness. The Miami native moved to Live Oak in 1968 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a detective for the Hialeah Police Department for 15 years, retired from the Department of Agriculture in Live Oak with five years, was a member of the D.A.V. No. 126 in Live Oak and was of the Protestant faith.



Survivors include his spouse Francine Hendrickson of Live Oak; two daughters, Carolyn Garay and June Kresge, both of Atlanta; one step-daughter, Penny Viera of Lake City; one sister, Eloise Kain of Ocala; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John Hendrickson Jr.; grandson Sean L. Smith; and step-son Michael Smith.



Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20, at the Live Oak Christian Church with the Rev. Joseph Schmidt officiating. Interment followed in Live Oak Cemetery.



Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak was in charge of all arrangements.



Johnny Roberts Moore



Johnny Roberts Moore, 79, a resident of Lake City, passed away September 16, 2004, at her home. A native of Lake Placid, she resided for most of her life in Suwannee County. She had been a resident of Lake City for the past nine years. Moore was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband George Warren Moore.



Survivors include two sons, John Warren Moore of Tampa and Louis Roberts of Melrose; two grandsons, William Warren Moore of Tampa and Professor Mathew Roberts of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Mildred Nicholas of Sanford, Ruby Poole of Live Oak and Loiselle Hingson of McAlpin; and several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 20, in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Sullivan officiating. Interment followed in the Crawford Lake Cemetery in McAlpin.



Guerry Funeral Home of Lake City was in charge of all arrangements.



Frank Kunzler



Frank Kunzler, 53, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on September 12, 2004, after an extended illness. He was a Wellborn resident for 12 years. Kunzler had recently relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. to be near family.



Survivors include his parents, Linden and Virginia Kunzler, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; his sister, Linda Kunzler Coole of Sun Lakes Ariz.; and his brother, Larry Kunzler, Sedro Woolley, Wash.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.



Arizona Cremation and Funeral Services was in charge of all arrangements.
