Arley Hurst
Arley Hurst, 84, of Live Oak, passed away Monday, May 31, 2004, in the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City, after a long illness. The Suwannee County native was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from the Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch after 20 years of service as chef and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Live Oak.
Survivors include: his wife Hazel Hurst, Live Oak; three daughters, Judy Hurst Adams, Tallahassee, Cathy Hurst Bramlett, Orange Park and Cynthia Ann Hurst, Live Oak; two sons, Johnnie and Jason Hurst, both of Live Oak; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., June 2, at Daniels Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David McKeithen officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Live Oak.
Daniels Funeral Home of Live Oak was in charge of all arrangements.
Thomas Harrell “Tom” Roper
Thomas Harrell “Tom” Roper, 55, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, after a brief battle with cancer. Roper was born in Live Oak and had spent most of his life as a law enforcement officer. He was a graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. in police science. He previously worked for the Palatka Police Department. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the Montgomery, Ala. Police Department and for the last 22 years, was a special agent of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement serving in several offices of assignment. His last assignment was with the Live Oak field office. Roper was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served on active duty during the Vietnam era. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Wilson Roper.
Survivors include: his mother, Thetus Iola Roper of Live Oak; one sister, Billie Lou Taylor of Lake City; three sons, Thomas Harrell Roper II and Renee of Ocala, Stephen Troy Roper and Kristie of Orange Park and Thomas Wilson “Will” Roper of Orange Park; one daughter, Amanda Lynn Roper of Orange Park; two nephews and one niece; former brother-in-law Jim Taylor; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 5, in the Live Oak Church of Christ in Live Oak with Mr. John Arnold and Mr. Craig Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery near Live Oak.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, June 4, at the funeral home.
