The Bank of Jennings on Hamilton Ave. in Jennings, is getting a new front, or should we say the old front restored to look like the bank as it was in the 1900s.
Workers from the Hamilton County Correctional Institute started the initial restoration – restoring the front of the bank – the first week in February.
Money raised to pay for the restoration was garnered from various fund-raisers, including a bank flea-market sale, the Cornstalk Fiesta, the City of Jennings and numerous other sponsors. The historical significance of the building is obvious to anyone viewing the structure. The building is one of the last old structures in the city.
Additional community support and funding will be required to preserve the building and its historical significance for the benefit of the community today and its citizens tomorrow.
Individuals throughout the county are invited to participate in the overall restoration effort with pictures of significance, relating to the building or any historical information pertaining to the old Bank of Jennings.
Interest for the project from residents may be directed to either Barb Rance at 938-4758 or Carole Taitt at 938-3582.
