On a cold brisk Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6, the Suwannee Bulldogs (4-0-1) met Gainesville’s neon orange-clad P.K. Yonge Blue Wave (2-2-1). Spirits were high as Christmas music floated over the rooftops from the nearby Christmas on the Square festivities.

Four minutes into the game Will Posey played Santa by opening the scoring with an assist from William Yanossey. Posey nutmegged the Blue Wave defender, cutting the ball past the PKY goalie.

Ten minutes later, the same goalie made a great save for the Blue Wave by jumping up to deflect the ball over the net on a perfectly placed kick by Peter Patterson.

Halfway into the first period, Wes Posey set up an exciting score by kicking a free kick to Billy Moran, who ran the ball down the right side of the field for a breakaway goal. Although hampered by the late afternoon sun in his eyes, Bulldog goalie Matt Yanossey overcame this handicap with several beautiful saves. The PKY goalie also made a remarkable save on a Wes Posey direct kick after a foul. The frustrations of the Blue Wave surfaced at the end of the first half, earning #13 and #14 a yellow card each. Suwannee was up 2-0 at the break.

Thirteen minutes into the second half, Matt Schmucker set up the last Bulldog score by sending the ball through to Michael Bowen. Bowen centered the ball to Moran, who booted it in. Shortly afterward, the PKY coaching staff gained two more yellow cards on disagreements with the referees.

Suwannee’s record now stands at 5-0-1. Monday night and Thursday night the Bulldogs are on the road. Friday night Suwannee meets Wakulla in a conference game, JV at 4 p.m. and Varsity at 6 p.m. in Langford Stadium.
