The Suwannee High School tennis seasons concluded this past weekend with an awards banquet at Dr. James Janousek’s home.
Both boys and girls squads celebrated winning records and third place finishes at the District Tournement in Tallahassee.
Special recoginition plaques were given out by Coach Budwick to Assistant Coach Jim McCoy, Bob Palmer, and Dr. Janousek. Bob Palmer’s continued camps and individual teaching were recoginized, as well as Dr. Janousek’s support of the teams and hosting of the awards partys were also recongized.
Special team awards were presented to the boys and girls teams as well.
For the girls, Emily Graham recieved the Team Leadership award. The Most Improved award was presented to senior Katherine Wilding for her tremendous improvement in all her skills throughout the season. And the Bright Future award was given to Freshmen Rebecca Wilkes, who will have the next three years at Suwannee to showcase her tennis ability.
For the boys awards, John Janousek received the Leadership award, as he is off to the bright lights of New York City, attending NYU in the fall. Sophomore Steven Pate garnered the Most Improved award for the Dogs. The boys Bright Future award was presented to Jordan Budwick. Jordan has three more years at Suwannee, and will be a huge asset to the team for those years.
Seniors graduating this year are John Janousek, Emily Graham, Christen Wooley, Kelsey Sellgren, Katherine Wilding, Jeff Shea, and Justin Ortega. They all received very nice travel bags, with their names embroidered on them, for their senior gifts. All will truely be missed.
Looking to next year, arriving from the middle school will be John Walt Boatwright and Lauren Michaels. Both of these players are primed and ready to step in and quickly help the team tremendously. Both have been playing tennis and taking lessons for the last eight years.
The coaches and players would like to thank all of this years sponsers, for without them, none of these awards would have been possible. Thanks go out to Dr. James Janousek, Suwannee Valley Electric, WB Howland, Goldkist Inc., J. W. Hill and Associates, First Federal, Tom and Mary Ricketson, and Sellers, Prevatt, and Robertson.
