Suwannee volleyball takes second game in a row

The Lady Dog volleyball team got off to a hot start this season with a super come-from-behind victory over Ft. White. They added a second “W” to their win list Tuesday with a sweep of the Hamilton County team in Hamilton County.



Suwannee’s team took the first game of the three-game match 25-13, then the second at 25-18 and the third 25-8. Strong service by Kyla Serrano and Heather Benson literally aced the competition. Benson had 11 service points, eight of them aces. Serrano had 22 service points eight of them aces.



Benson also had 13 assists. Benson is Suwannee’s top setter. Serrano had two assists and one block to complete her total for the night.



Ashley Rose led the Lady Dogs in kills with six. Rose also had three service points, three assists and three blocks.



Stephanee Skipper had four kills, five service points and two assists.



Merlonda Owens had three kills and one service point.



Alex Camunas put in a great all-around showing with two kills, seven service points, three of them aces and six assists.



Danielle Smith had three service points two of them aces.



Suwannee’s libero player, Nereyda Pecina, had one assist and two blocks.



The JV squad fought hard but lost their match in three games. They won the first game 29-27 but lost the next two games 27-28 and 11-15.



Look for more Suwannee volleyball at home Tuesday, Sept. 7 against Taylor County. The JV plays at 5 p.m. and the varsity will take the court at 6 p.m. Come out and support this strong new Suwannee volleyball team. Go Lady Dogs!
