Terry Sez – Lady Bucs softball season comes to an end

The Lady Bucs softball season came to an end this past week in the first round of the district tournament falling to the second seeded host team, the Lady Tigers, by a score of 10-0.

Branford was not able to get a hit in the contest, and was limited to two base runners, a walk to Whitney Dubose, and Shauna Nettles taking first base after being hit by a pitch.

Senior pitcher Katee Knapp kept the Bucs in the ball game through four innings only allowing three hits to that point. With the Bucs trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bucs season would come to a quick end as the Lady Tigers used strong hitting with multiple Bucs errors to end the game in the fifth inning.

Considering the youth on the Buccaneer squad that includes to sixth grader and only one senior, Branford was very competitive in most of their contests. Despite the loss against Trenton, Branford got a great game at third base from Crystal Bass. Bass made great plays in the First and second innings to bring those innings to a close. Christine Trisch did a nice job at second base making a couple of nice stops with runners on board to keep the Bucs out of big innings.

Branford would get great play from their younger players this year. With another year of experience, look for this group to make some future noise. Branford finished the season with only two wins, but certainly held their own against some quality opposition.

We certainly want to wish the lone senior, Knapp, much success as she continues her softball career at the next level. Her leadership skills and hard work ethics on the softball field will be missed at Branford and look forward to hearing big things from her as she takes on a new adventure.

Congratulations ladies and thanks for all your efforts on the diamond.
