An O’Brien man and a Lake City woman were arrested at a residence near O’Brien shortly after midnight on October 4 and transported to the Suwannee County Jail. The arrests were made by Sergeant Ben Sears assisted by Deputy Jake Greene with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s department, according to a news release from the Suwannee County Sheriff’s office.
Otis James Thomas, 49, of 26319 101st Road and Amber Nicole Norton, 23, of 567 S. E. Avalon Ave. Lake City were placed under arrest, charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Thomas was also charged with trespassing.
At approximately 12:37 p.m. Sergeant Sears was dispatched to an O’Brien residence to give a trespass warning to Thomas. The property owner told the deputy that she was preparing the home to move into herself when Thomas moved in with two of his friends and refused to leave. Sergeant Sears warned Thomas that he had to leave but he refused to go and was very belligerent to the deputy. Sergeant Sears called for Deputy Jake Greene as backup and placed Thomas under arrest. As Deputy Greene was placing Thomas in his squad car he located a plastic container in his front pocket that contained what appeared to be cocaine.
When Sergeant Sears continued his investigation he found that Amber Norton had drugs and a crack pipe in her possession.
Both Thomas and Norton were arrested and transported to the Suwannee County Jail, according to the SCSO report.
Thomas’ bond was set at $4,000 and Norton’s bond was set at $2,750. As of Tuesday morning Thomas had bonded out while Norton remained incarcerated.
