The Lafayette Lady Hornets junior varsity volleyball team rallied in match number two and pulled out a 2-0 win over a gamed Branford junior varsity team last Thursday night. Lafayette took match number one 25-14 before in match number two 25-20.
Branford, looking to send the contest to a third match, took what seemingly was a sufficient lead by moving in front 16-9. But the Lady Hornets were not ready to concede the contest and came back to not only tie the score but to go in front 19-17. It was the first lead for Lafayette since they led 3-1 early. The match was tied twice at 19 and 20 before Lafayette scored the last five points to win 25-20.
The Lady Hornets fell behind early but came back strong to assume a 8-2 lead behind the play of Kelsey Land. The Lady Hornets never looked back from that point of the contest. Land would later serve up the final six points in giving her team a victory in the opening match.
The play of the junior varsity team ended this past Tuesday. The future of Lady Hornet volleyball looks very promising for the next few years.
