Shirley L. Goble, 69, of Lake Park died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. She was born on April 20, 1936 in Brooks County and had lived in Lowndes County since 1966. Mrs. Goble was a member of the Morningside Baptist Church and loved going to church.
Survivors include her husband, Lamar R. Goble of Lake Park; her children and their spouses, Steve and Dianne Goble of Orlando, Fla., Kaye and Lamar White of Valdosta, Keith and Tara Goble of Valdosta, Tammie and Gilbert Vaquerano of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Nicki Goble, Stephanie Carter, Jennifer Goble, Ryan Goble, Kyle White, Morgan Goble, Kalin Goble, Jessica Vaquerano, Justin (Valerie) Miles and Zack Miles; three great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dallas and Willene Hall of Lake Park, Charles and Diane Hall of Berlin and Harry and Debra Hall of Arcadia, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at the Morningside Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Goble will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the services. Theresa Ann Bennett, 65 of Valdosta, died on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born on Jan. 22, 1940 in Lakewood, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Catherine Carney Morey and was a member of Unity Sabbath Church of God.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy and Bob Croft, Terri Lynne Temples and Roy Gonzalez, all of Valdosta, Jo Jo and John Wolf of Stockbridge; six grandchildren, Gina McCullers, Jason Rothrock, Rocky Rothrock, Joshua Boone Temples, Crystal Ganas and Jessica Ganas; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elva Murray of Barnegat, N.J. She was also preceded in death by her son, Danny Chaney of Naylor and her sisters, Wanda Brown and Vivian Mowbray both of Barnegat.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Billy Latham officiated. The family received friends before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of fresh flowers, the family requested green plants. Effie L. Huff, 88, of Valdosta passed away early Wednesday, afternoon at her daughter’s residence in Adel after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 14, 1918 in Worth County Ga., to the late William and Effie Butler Lumsden. Mrs. Huff was a member of Cherry Creek Baptist Church in Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Huff, Sr. and two Daughters, Faye Huff and Marie Diane Rozeck.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Bea and James Folsom, Adel, Jackie and Stanley Williams Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Donna Huff, Melrose, Fla., Louie and Becky Huff, Jr. Clyattville; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 2006 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with the Rev. Joey Harris and the Rev. Glenn Gray officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula, Ga. with the Rev. Walstin Waller officiating. Lucille M. Taylor-Johnson was born to the late Irene Brown and Grant Taylor, Jr. Education in Valdosta City Schools, employed by Valdosta Board of Education (Lelia Ellis Elementary Cafeteria) for 13 years, Texture Tex for 13 years, Dasher Pecan factory and Mr. J.L. Newbern. Many in the neighborhood knew her as “Mudear”.
She was a member of St. Paul AME Church all of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Irene Brown and Grant Taylor, Jr., husband, Leroy Johnson, a brother Thomas Taylor (T.T.)
Her memories will live on in the lives of her loved ones, one son, Russell L. Johnson; one daughter, Delphine Johnson-Robinson (Rev. Luther B.); granddaughter, Seletha Jones-Willis (Roger), all of Valdosta; grandson, Eusley B. Jones Sr. (Jeanette), Fort Lee, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Shayne Willis, Eusley (BJ) Jones, Kayla D. Willis, Alexis Jones and Taylor Jones; one adopted son, James Roberts; one brother, Cleveland Taylor, Hartford, Conn.; two sisters, Thelma-Johnson, Detroit, Mich.; Sandra (Jean) Belcher (Mark), Valdosta; a devoted sister-in-law, Thelma Johnson-Jones, Jacksonville, Fla.; niece, Karen Spikes, Valdosta; nephew, Jonathan Spikes, Miami; god children, Suprena Roberson, Latrish Patterson, Diane Farrell; cousins, Halen Williams, Joyce and Otis Snead; one adopted sister, Betty Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Maggie Watson, 67, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006. She was born in Lowndes County on Oct. 28, 1938 to the late Kasier Edmond and the late Clyde Watson. Her rearing parents were Eugene Clark, Sr. and the late Dorothy Clark.
Maggie was educated at Dasher High School and retired from Levi Strauss after many years of employment. She was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.
She is survived by five children, LaSaundra Sirmans of Valdosta, Cheryl Brown of Sumter, S.C., Willie Hankins, III (Ella), Macon, Gregory Hankins of San Diego, Calif., and Cynthia Hatcher (Jeffery), of Orlando, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Shena Roberts, Carl Wilson, Marlon Sirmans, Bernard Brown, Charity Wilson; Justin Hankins, Jamliah Hankins, and Jazmine Hatcher; six great-grandchildren, Wesley, Jennifer, Jayland, Ariana, Leyana, and Joshua; one sister, Ruby Perkins, Tampa, Fla.; one aunt, Dorletha Wakefield, Detroit, Mich.; four special friends, Gwen Clark, Joyce Lissimore, Clara Savage, and Carnetha Washington; and a host of other family and friends.
