Ralph Nolan Henderson

Ralph Nolan Henderson, age 77, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Jasper, Florida, on March 4, 1928, to the late Frank and Mary Katherine Henderson. He was preceded in death on December 17, 2004, by his twin brother, Raymon Henderson.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Sarah Henderson; one sister, Oleta Henderson Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Martha Ruth Henderson, all of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Hope Chapel, Tacachale in Gainesville. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.

Elizabeth R. Warrick

Elizabeth R. Warrick, 74, of Lake Park, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Washington D.C., on January 6, 1932, to the late William Randolph and Alma McNerhay Longest. She had lived in Lowndes County for twenty years and was a former resident of Jasper, Florida. Mrs. Warrick was a Catholic and had been a volunteer with hospice.

Survivors include her children and their spouses: Richard C. Loe of West Palm Beach, Florida; William R. Loe of Ft. Pierce, Florida; Gail M. and Paul Arnone of Herndon, Virginia; Robert Michael and Robin Loe of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Steven T. Warrick of Valdosta, Georgia; Christine D. and David Schuj of Summerville, North Caroline; and Benjamin C. and Amber Warrick of Valdosta; nine grandchildren and a special friend, Ronny Oliver of Lake Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Warrick, and three children: Raymond Loe, Sylvia G. Loe and Scott Warrick.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Father John O’Brien officiating. Lamar Culbreth

Lamar Culbreth, 78, of Valdosta, Georgia, died on Thursday, February 1, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Born in Jennings, Florida, to the late Alvin and Irene Scaff Culbreth, he had lived the majority of his life in this area. Mr. Culbreth was a veteran of the Navy and served in WWII. He then attended and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Agriculture from the University of Florida, and became a lifelong “Gator Fan.” After graduation, Mr. Culbreth taught agriculture classes to WWII veterans in North Florida. He then began a career in pest control that would last for 50 years and he started his own business, Astro Exterminating Services in Valdosta in 1969. He expanded his business through acquisitions to include the cities of Thomasville, Moultrie, Tifton, Savannah and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Mr. Culbreth was a past president of the Georgia Pest Control Association, a member of the Kiwanis Club, served on the Valdosta City Council for six years, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of Valdosta. He was member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret McIntyre Culbreth of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Kim Perlman of Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in-laws: Rick and Sara Culbreth, and Arch and Stefanie Culbreth all of Savannah; six grandchildren: Melissa Bullington (Pete) Thomas of Thomasville, Allison Leigh Culbreth, Rick Culbreth Jr., Joshua Culbreth and Blake Culbreth all of Savannah, and Addy Miller Perlman of Valdosta. Also surviving are two sisters: Jon Eva Hungerford of Lexington, Kentucky and Betty Carter of Jacksonville, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ella Culbreth Bullington, and a brother, Billy Culbreth.

Funeral services for Mr. Culbreth were held on Saturday, February 4, 2006, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Phil West and Reverend Mac Weaver officiated. Burial followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Valdosta, P.O. Box 682, Valdosta, GA 31603, or the First Baptist Church. Louis Edward Conaway

Louis Edward Conaway, age 65, of Lake City, Florida, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2006, in Shands at Lake Shore Hospital following an brief illness. Mr. Conaway was born in Herrin, Illinois, and was a retired maintenance supervisor.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Tomlinson of Lake City; one daughter, Valory Gale of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren: Christina Gale, Amanda Gale, Wendy Carroll and Tyler Gale; two great-grandchildren: Colburn Holton and Hailey Marie Carroll.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 1, 2006, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment will follow at Prospect Cemetery at a later date.

Edward Cuthbert “Buck” Smith

Edward Cuthbert “Buck” Smith, age 90, passed away Saturday morning in a local nursing home following a brief illness. Mr. Smith was a native of Hamilton County where he retired as a farmer. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Kynesville, Florida.

Survivors include three daughters: Betty Knolla, Martha Morgan, and Beverly Smith, all of Jasper, Florida; one-stepdaughter, DeRida McMillian of Sneads, Florida; one brother, Thomas Smith of Green Mountain, North Carolina; four sisters: Ovis Deas and Beatrice Selph, both of Jennings, Florida, and Winnie Hodges and Dollie Selph both of Jasper; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Monday, February 6, 2006, in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery of Jasper with Reverend Wendell Hill officiating.

Frank Townsend

Frank Townsend, age 60, of Jasper, Florida, passed this life Friday, February 3, 2006, at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at New Bethel A.M.E. Church with Reverend Ron Rawls officiating. Burial will follow in the Sasser Landing Cemetery in Jennings, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, at New Bethel A.M.E Church.
