Tucker Patrick, HCHS student, places third in Regional Spelling Bee

Tucker Patrick, a Hamilton County High School seventh grader, competed against 14 other students in the Regional Spelling Bee in Jacksonville, on Saturday, Feb. 25. He placed third after misspelling the word “bolshevise.”

Tucker also competed in the Regional Spelling Bee last year. With his experience he should return to the spelling bee again next year.

Tucker is the son of Linda and Paul Moore of White Springs and Dave Patrick of Champion,

Ohio.

Kimberly Olson of Gainesville, won the contest after spelling the word, “haggis.” She will participate in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on May 31.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nations largest and longest running educational program. The Florida Times-Union partners with schools in 15 northeast Florida counties to encourage, celebrate and reward spelling excellence. The Regional Spelling Bee began in 1944 as the North Florida Journal-WJHP Spelling Bee.
