VALDOSTA — The Lady Blazers kept on rolling this weekend as they completed the sweep of the Alabama-Huntsville Lady Chargers, 5-0, 6-1. VSU (20-6, 9-1) extended their winning streak to 15 games.

“I feel like if we keep playing the way we are there’s no stopping us,” said first baseman Holly Willis after the game.

In game one Liz Hall was the winning pitcher for VSU. Hall pitched a complete game five hit shut-out. She threw one walk and three strike outs.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the VSU bats came alive. Melissa Santana started the inning with a single to right field and crossed the plate two batters later on a Willis RBI single to center field. Trele Edwards drove in another run on a single to left. VSU took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth where they would gain some insurance runs.

In the sixth Willis cracked a two run homer over the right field wall. A run earlier in the inning on an error brought the VSU lead to 5-0.

Ramsey went 3-for-4 with two runs. Willis went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and one run.

Sage Woodham took the loss for UAH giving up six hits and two runs in five innings of work.

In game two the Lady Chargers came out swinging and had redemption on their mind. The problem was that the VSU defense was just too much.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Caroline Cripe led off the inning with a homer off the score board. UAH answered back in the top of the fifth and tied the game 1-1. Megan Blanchard reached on a fielder’s choice and drove in Kristy Pilkerton.

VSU took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth when Willis singled to center and drove in Santana for the go ahead run. UAH still looked to be in the game until the bottom of the sixth when Amy Gaiss dashed any hope the Lady Chargers had.

A fielding error brought in the first run of the inning then with one on and two outs Willis was intentionally walked to get to Gaiss. Gaiss made them regret the decision with a three run shot over the right field wall. The game ended 6-1 with VSU amassing 10 hits while only allowing five.

Kristen Lindsey got the win for the Lady Blazers after coming in for relief in the fifth inning and allowing no hits and no runs in 2.2 pitched.

Gaiss went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and one run. Santana went 2-for-3 with one run. Cripe went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run.

Courtney Hudson was the losing pitcher after giving up 7 hits and 2 runs in 4.1 innings.

Up next for the Lady Blazers will be an away game against conference foe West Florida on March 15. VSU will return home on March 22 to face West Georgia in a four game weekend.
