River Reunion schedule update

At the regular monthly meeting on March 28, of the Branford River Reunion Committee, several suggestions were given and well accepted by the group, as to how the 4th of July event can be more entertaining throughout the day, giving the crowd attending something to stay around all day for.

Jennifer Winnett, early on accepted the chairmanship for entertainment consisting of games and other fun things lasting throughout the day. She was given a budgeted amount to spend on game prizes and give aways, for children and youth games.

Brian Lumbert, committee member is working to obtain Party Time Inflatables which would be set up on one of the ball fields at Hatch Park. Also, an Antique Tractor Show that would possible be set up on a ball field. Lumbert is also in charge of the parade.

The committee is presently taking application for food, craft and miscellaneous booths. To obtain information contact Peggy Terry, booth chairperson at (386) 935-0021.

A Patriotic Pet Contest will be held at 11 a.m. at the band stand at Hatch Park. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the judging and announcement of winners to be at 11 a.m. Eunice Herko is chairperson for the Patriotic Pet event and can be contacted at (386) 935-6333. There will be a $5 entry fee. First, second and third place cash prizes will be awarded, and other prizes for all participants.

Trannie Lacquey, a committee member, also representing the Branford Rotary Club announced a possible “Belly Flop” at Ivey Park prior to the annual Rotary Club Duck Race, as an added attraction.

The Fourth of July is on Tuesday this year, and festivities are scheduled for this day.

Those attending the March meeting were Shirley Hatch, Gilbert Bernardo, co-chairman, Peggy Terry, Don Owens, Brian Lumbert, Diane Walker, Eunice Herko, Jennifer Winnett, Trannie Lacquey, Michael Bates and Kathy Woolard. The next scheduled meeting is May 23. Those interested in assisting with details are invited to attend the meeting which begins at 7 p.m. at the Branford Library.

The annual 5K Run will kickoff festivities on the morning of the 4th of July. Opening ceremonies for the River Reunion will take place at Hatch Park at 10 a.m., where all venders will also be placed.

Musical entertainment is scheduled all day with Roy Welch as master of ceremonies.
